1853📚The origin of the potato chip is often attributed to George Crum, a chef at Moon's Lake House in Saratoga Springs, New York, in 1853. The popular story goes that a demanding customer complained that his fried potatoes were too thick and soggy. In response, he supposedly sliced the potatoes paper-thin, fried them to a crisp, and seasoned them with extra salt, intending to annoy the customer. To his surprise, the customer loved the crispy, salty potatoes, and the "Saratoga Chips" were born. However, some historical accounts suggest that George Crum may not have been the sole inventor and that his sister, Kate Wicks, might have also played a role in its creation. Regardless of the exact details, Saratoga Springs, New York, played a significant role in popularizing the potato chip, which was initially known as "Saratoga Chips" and sold as a local delicacy before becoming a mass-produced snack food.
