SMURK JUST CAUGHT A W IN COURT. 👀⚖️

And before anybody starts screaming “FREE DURK, HE BEAT THE CASE!”

Hold on.

THAT AIN'T WHAT HAPPENED. 😂

But what DID happen is a significant victory for the Chicago rapper's defense team as his long-awaited federal murder-for-hire trial approaches.

A federal judge ruled that two newly added racketeering-related counts will NOT be included in Lil Durk's upcoming August trial. Instead, those allegations have been severed and can be handled separately at a later date.

Translation for everybody who doesn't speak fluent courthouse:

The feds brought some extra luggage to the airport...

And the judge basically said:

“UH-UH. THAT BAG AIN'T GETTING ON THIS FLIGHT.” 😭

⚖️ SO WHAT EXACTLY DID DURK WIN?

Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, is scheduled to go to trial in Los Angeles on August 20, 2026.

Prosecutors had added new racketeering allegations in June. Those allegations referenced additional alleged criminal activity, including a 2019 Atlanta shooting and a 2022 Chicago killing, according to reports on the case.

Durk's attorneys argued that adding those allegations so close to trial dramatically expanded the case they had spent years preparing to defend.

And apparently Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald looked at that calendar and said:

“Y'all JUST adding all this?!”

Because he granted the defense request to separate the new allegations from the August trial.

Baby...

Durk's lawyers walked out of that courtroom with a little pep in their step.

DON'T RUN. JUST WALK CASUALLY. 😂

🚨 BUT DON'T GET IT TWISTED: THE CHARGES DIDN'T DISAPPEAR

Now here's where social media can turn a court ruling into something it isn't.

The judge did NOT dismiss those counts.

He severed them.

That means prosecutors can potentially pursue them in a separate proceeding later.

So this isn't:

🎉 “CASE CLOSED! SOMEBODY CALL DURK AN UBER!”

It's more:

“We're dealing with THAT later. Right now we're dealing with THIS.”

Still a win for the defense?

Absolutely.

The August jury won't have all of those additional allegations bundled into the same trial.

But Durk still faces an extremely serious federal case.

👀 AND THE AUGUST TRIAL IS STILL VERY SERIOUS

Federal prosecutors accuse Durk of involvement in an alleged 2022 murder-for-hire plot targeting rapper Quando Rondo in Los Angeles.

The shooting instead killed Rondo's cousin, Saviay'a “Lul Pab” Robinson.

Durk has pleaded not guilty. He has remained in federal custody since his October 2024 arrest.

And because we're talking about an actual death and a family that lost somebody, that part isn't joke material.

Whatever anybody thinks about Durk, Quando Rondo, OTF or the music, a man lost his life, and the upcoming trial will determine whether prosecutors can prove their allegations against Durk and his co-defendants.

I LIKE ME SOME LIL DURK.

Put on All My Life.

Put on When We Shoot.

Put on Ahhh Ha.

Put on some of that Durk where he starts singing and rapping at the same time and suddenly everybody in the car thinks they've survived six street wars and three heartbreaks.

I'M LISTENING. 😂

But being a fan doesn't mean turning allegations into facts OR pretending serious charges don't exist.

We can love the music and still say:

LET THE COURTROOM DO THE COURTROOMING.

Because Twitter University does not offer an accredited law degree. 😭

⚖️ AND DURK'S LAWYERS AREN'T PLAYING

Durk's defense has been aggressively challenging the government's case as the August trial approaches.

This latest ruling matters because it keeps the upcoming trial more narrowly focused rather than allowing prosecutors to fold the newer racketeering allegations into the same proceeding.

And when you're facing federal prosecutors...

ANYTHING THEY DON'T GET TO PUT IN FRONT OF THAT JURY IS SOMETHING YOUR LAWYERS ARE PROBABLY CELEBRATING.

Not champagne celebrating.

More like:

“Good. Now everybody get back to work.”

Because August 20 is coming QUICK.

Lil Durk isn't just another rapper to Chicago.

He's one of the biggest artists to come out of the city's drill era and went from Chicago mixtapes to Grammy-winning international success.

So when this trial begins, Chicago is going to be watching.

Hip-hop is going to be watching.

And you already KNOW social media is going to turn into Court TV with people who have never entered a courthouse. 😭

Every objection:

“HE COMING HOME!”

Every prosecution win:

“IT'S OVER!”

Everybody...

WAIT FOR THE VERDICT. 😂

For now, what we actually know is simple:

Lil Durk's defense scored an important pretrial victory.

The two newly added counts won't be part of his August trial.

They have not been dismissed.

And the main federal case is still moving toward trial.
