Chicago, everything costs too much right now, so when there are free groceries, health screenings, financial help, employment opportunities and community resources, 730 BOOM Radio is going to tell you where they are.
Because sometimes people don't need another speech about “resources being available.”

Here are several events and ongoing resources coming up around Chicago and the Southland.
The 75th St. Fresh Foods Market returns Thursday, September 24, from noon until 2 p.m. at The Kindness Campaign, 703 E. 75th St.
This isn't just somebody handing you a mystery bag and sending you home. Organizers describe it as a shopper-choice market where participants select from healthy grocery options, with shoppers receiving an average of about $150 worth of groceries for free. Registration is available through the organization.
If buying a home, fixing your credit or figuring out your finances has you staring at paperwork like it's written in ancient Egyptian, here's one to put on the calendar.
The South Side Community Federal Credit Union's 18th Annual Housing & Financial Expo happens Saturday, September 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 5401 S. Wentworth Ave.
Admission is free, but registration is required because seating is limited.
Workshops cover homeownership, banking, business, credit building, investing, financial wellness and building long-term wealth. The event is available both in person and virtually.
🩺 FREE HEALTH FAIR + GIVEAWAYS
Another good one is coming Thursday, September 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. at New Life Covenant Southeast, 7621 S. Greenwood Ave.
The free community health fair will offer health screenings, men's PSA screenings, mental-health services, dental and vision resources, neurological screenings, health and fitness information, an Ask the Doctor panel, raffles and free giveaways.
And listen, sometimes we will spend three hours researching a new phone and three minutes researching our own blood pressure.

💼 LOOKING FOR WORK? SEPTEMBER 30 IS A BIG ONE
The 2026 Fall Citywide Career Fair is happening Wednesday, September 30, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Kennedy-King College, U-Building, 740 W. 63rd St.
Employers representing multiple in-demand industries are expected to participate.
Walk-ins are welcome, although organizers strongly recommend registering ahead of time. Free résumé and interview assistance is also available beforehand through local American Job Centers.
So don't walk in there with the résumé you made in 2007 that still says “Microsoft Internet Explorer.”
Freshen that thing up and go get your job. 😂
There's also an in-person Community Employment Day Career Fair on Thursday, September 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott Magnificent Mile, 165 E. Ontario St. Organizers advertise recruiters hiring for hundreds of positions.
❤️ NEED HELP IN THE SOUTH SUBURBS?
These aren't one-day events. They're organizations people in the Southland can contact when they need ongoing assistance.
South Suburban PADS in Homewood helps people experiencing or at risk of homelessness connect with housing-focused services. Its main office is at 950 W. 175th St. in Homewood, and the listed phone number is 708-332-7700. Important: the Homewood office itself is not a walk-in emergency shelter, so call first if you need emergency housing.
Respond Now at 1439 Emerald Ave. in Chicago Heights provides assistance including food and basic-needs support and connections to housing and health resources. The listed phone number is 708-755-4357. Pantry schedules and requirements can change, so call before heading over.
Thornton Township Food Assistance Center

Thornton Township Food And General Assistance Center at 15340 Page Ave. in Harvey provides scheduled food assistance for township residents. Because distribution hours can vary depending on the program, call 708-596-6040 before making the trip.
And Bloom Township Food Pantry at 425 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights is another recurring grocery resource. Current distribution hours are listed as Mondays from 3 to 7 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 708-543-2555 to verify eligibility and hours before visiting.

Groceries are high. Rent is high. Utilities are high. Jobs are playing hide-and-seek.
So if somebody is giving away food, helping you fix your résumé, teaching you how to improve your credit, connecting you with housing resources or putting you directly in front of employers...
