💔 ‘MENACE II SOCIETY’ ACTOR SAMUEL MONROE JR.’S HEALTH CRISIS DEEPENS AS FAMILY FACES AN UNIMAGINABLE DECISION

Samuel Monroe Jr., the actor remembered by many from the 1993 classic Menace II Society, has been battling a devastating series of medical complications that have left him on life support. His wife, Shawna Stewart, has said his condition deteriorated after a prolonged battle with meningitis.

💔 HIS WIFE SAYS HIS BRAIN TISSUE IS DETERIORATING

According to Stewart, a CT scan showed that Monroe is suffering from encephalopathy and deterioration of brain tissue.

His medical battle has also included MRSA pneumonia, kidney failure requiring dialysis, multiple blood transfusions and life-support measures. Stewart said his weakened immune system became so severe that he was being treated in a negative-pressure isolation room and receiving multiple antibiotics.

There had previously been a moment of hope.

In early May, Monroe showed significant improvement. His kidneys improved enough for doctors to stop dialysis temporarily, he was taken off blood-pressure medication, and he was able to breathe without the ventilator for several hours. He was reportedly alert enough to move his head in response to questions.

Unfortunately, that progress didn't last.

By May 13, Stewart said Monroe had suffered another severe downturn and was back on life support, in a medically induced coma, receiving blood transfusions and again requiring dialysis. 

🙏🏾 HIS FAMILY SAYS THIS STARTED WITH MENINGITIS

Stewart has said Monroe contracted meningitis while working on a film project in Las Vegas approximately 18 months before his hospitalization became public.

She alleges that he went to several hospitals and was repeatedly misdiagnosed, allowing the meningitis to remain untreated for approximately eight months. By the time he received the correct diagnosis, she said the infection had spread to his brain and spine.

His family has said they have spent months fighting alongside him through hospital stays and rehabilitation facilities.

💔 NOW HIS WIFE IS FACING AN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT QUESTION

Stewart, who says she holds power of attorney for her husband, told TMZ that she has reached the point where she must consider his quality of life.

She said no final decision had been made and emphasized that her husband is a fighter and that she continues praying for his recovery.

Reports have used the possibility of a vegetative state in describing what the family fears could lie ahead, but it's important not to report that as Monroe's established current diagnosis. What Stewart specifically reported was encephalopathy, deteriorating brain tissue and the need to weigh his future quality of life.

For his family, this isn't a headline.

It's a husband.
