SBA IS OPENING DISASTER LOAN CENTERS FOR JULY STORM VICTIMS... BUT DON'T JUST SHOW UP THINKING THEY'RE PASSING OUT CHECKS! šŸ’°šŸŒŖļø

Okay, Chicagoland, THIS is information people need before everybody grabs their purse, jumps in the car and heads to Hazel Crest because they heard:

ā€œTHE SBA GOT MONEY!ā€Ā

Yes, the U.S. Small Business Administration is opening Disaster Loan Outreach CentersĀ for people affected by the July 27, 2026 severe stormsĀ in Chicagoland.

And YES, this assistance is available to regular homeowners and renters, not just business owners.

But before you show up asking:

ā€œWHERE MY $500,000 AT?ā€

Hold it right there. šŸ˜‚

These are LOANS, not grants, and nobody is standing behind a folding table handing out checks.

šŸ’³ WHAT IF MY CREDIT IS BAD?

Don't count yourself out!Ā SBA disaster loans do consider credit history and your ability to repay, but SBA's disaster-loan standards can be more flexible than traditional bank lending. There is no single published minimum credit score that automatically determines approval.

So if you have late payments, collections or a low credit score, you may still qualify. Apply and let SBA make the decision.

DON'T DENY YOURSELF BEFORE SBA DOES.

Here's exactly what these centers are, who can use them, what you could potentially qualify for, what you should bring and, most importantly, WHICH STORM THIS MONEY IS ACTUALLY FOR.Ā

šŸŒŖļø FIRST: THIS IS FOR THE JULY 27 STORM

This is VERY important because we've had so many storms around here that Mother Nature apparently forgot to clock out.

The new SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Centers are specifically being opened for residents and businesses affected by the July 27, 2026 severe storms.

The disaster declaration covers Cook and Will counties, along with the contiguous Illinois counties of DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake and McHenry.

And guess what?

LAKE COUNTY, INDIANA IS INCLUDED TOO.

So Northwest Indiana, pay attention.

But if your damage happened during the August storms we just experienced, don't walk in there and simply say:

ā€œThe storm messed my house up.ā€

Tell them the EXACT DATEĀ your damage occurred.

Why?

Because July, June and August storm damage can fall under different disaster declarations and different assistance programs.

Don't accidentally apply under the wrong disaster.

šŸ“ WHERE ARE THE CENTERS?

There are two locations.

The suburban Cook County center is at Hazel Crest Administration Offices, 3601 W. 183rd Street, Hazel Crest, Illinois 60429.

It opens Friday, August 21Ā and remains open through Friday, September 4.

Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; closed Sunday.Ā

The Chicago center is at the Chicago Public Library Pullman Branch, 11001 S. Indiana Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60628.

That location opened Thursday, August 20Ā and runs through Thursday, September 3.

Its hours are Monday and Wednesday 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday noon–8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 9 a.m.–5 p.m.Ā It's closed Sundays.

And NO:

YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIVE IN HAZEL CREST TO GO TO HAZEL CREST.

SBA says impacted residents can visit either Disaster Loan Outreach Center regardless of their county or municipality.

Spanish translators will also be available at both locations.

šŸš¶šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø DO YOU NEED AN APPOINTMENT?

No.

WALK-INS ARE ACCEPTED.

But you can also make an appointment ahead of time if you don't want to roll the dice on the wait.

And if you don't want to go anywhere at all, you can apply online:

The people working at these centers can answer questions, explain the disaster-loan program and help you complete your application.Ā

šŸ  WAIT... I DON'T OWN A BUSINESS. CAN I GO?

YES!

This is probably the biggest misunderstanding surrounding the SBA.

You see Small Business AdministrationĀ and naturally think:

ā€œWell, that ain't got nothing to do with me. I don't have a business.ā€

WRONG.

For declared disasters, SBA also provides loans to qualifying:

Homeowners. Renters. Businesses. And certain nonprofit organizations.

The loans are intended to help with eligible disaster losses not covered by insurance.Ā

šŸ’° HOW MUCH MONEY ARE WE TALKING?

Now THIS is where I need everybody to listen carefully.

Homeowners may potentially qualify for up to $500,000Ā to repair or replace a disaster-damaged primary residence.

Homeowners and renters may potentially qualify for up to $100,000Ā to repair or replace damaged personal property, such as furniture and appliances.

Businesses and certain nonprofits can potentially borrow up to $2 MILLIONĀ for physical disaster damage.

But those numbers are MAXIMUM LOAN LIMITS.

It does NOT mean:

ā€œMy basement got wet. Give me $500,000.ā€Ā šŸ˜

Your actual eligibility and loan amount depend on your qualifying losses and SBA's determination.

šŸ¢ WHAT IF MY BUSINESS WASN'T PHYSICALLY DAMAGED BUT I LOST MONEY?

Now THIS one may help some small-business owners.

The Economic Injury Disaster Loan program, or EIDL, may be available to qualifying small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives and private nonprofits that suffered financial losses directly because of the disaster.

That means physical damage isn't necessarily required for an EIDL.

For example, if the storm seriously disrupted operations and created qualifying economic injury, there may be assistance available for working-capital needs.

SBA says it generally cannot provide these disaster loans to agricultural producers, farmers or ranchers, except qualifying small aquaculture enterprises.

šŸ“‚ OKAY LADY RED... WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Here's where I don't want people turning around and driving home because:

ā€œDang! I didn't bring that.ā€

Cook County's announcement does notĀ say you must arrive with one specific complete packet just to speak with an SBA representative.

SO IF YOU DON'T HAVE EVERYTHING, STILL GO.

That's literally why representatives are there: to tell you what applies to your particular situationĀ and help you through the application.

But if you're trying to get the application moving instead of making three trips, bring as much documentation as you reasonably have.

I would put together a folder containing your government-issued ID, Social Security and contact information, address of the damaged property, insurance policy and claim information, photographs or videos showing the damage, repair estimates or receipts you already have, a list of damaged belongings, mortgage or lease information and relevant financial information.

Business owners should also bring available business and financial recordsĀ that can help document their physical or economic losses.

And if you're missing something?

DON'T SIT AT HOME ASSUMING YOU CAN'T APPLY.

Go talk to the SBA representative and find out exactly what YOURĀ application requires.

🚨 AND PLEASE UNDERSTAND: THIS IS NOT FEMA

Don't see the words ā€œdisaster assistanceā€Ā and assume everybody is getting free emergency money.

THESE SBA PROGRAMS ARE LOANS.

They generally have to be repaid.

The center isn't a place where you walk in, tell somebody your roof was damaged and leave with a $100,000 check.

You're applying for a federal disaster loan.

That's a completely different thing.

šŸ›‹ļø RENTERS, DON'T SCROLL PAST THIS!

Renters sometimes think disaster programs are only for homeowners.

Not this one.

If you're a qualifying renter and the July 27 storm destroyed or damaged eligible personal belongings, you may potentially qualify for a personal-property disaster loan even though you don't own the building.

We're talking about things such as furniture and appliances.

So don't assume:

ā€œMy landlord owns the house, so none of this applies to me.ā€

Ask SBA.

šŸš— WHAT ABOUT CARS?

SBA's disaster-loan program can cover certain disaster-damaged personal property, and its disaster guidance for other current Illinois declarations specifically identifies carsĀ among personal property that may qualify for repair or replacement assistance.

But because eligibility depends on the specific disaster and circumstances, if your vehicle was damaged in the July storm, take the documentation with you and ask the SBA representative to determine whether that loss qualifies.Ā

ā° DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE CENTER CLOSES AND THINK YOU MISSED EVERYTHING

The outreach centers themselves are temporary.

But the application deadlines are later.

For physical property damage from this disaster, the deadline is:

OCTOBER 19, 2026

For Economic Injury Disaster Loans:

MAY 18, 2027

So Hazel Crest closing September 4 does notĀ mean September 4 is the loan-application deadline.

šŸ“ž DON'T WANT TO GO IN PERSON?

Call the SBA Disaster Assistance Customer Service Center:

800-659-2955

People who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability can dial 7-1-1Ā for telecommunications relay services.

Or start online:

🚨 LADY RED'S BIGGEST WARNING: KNOW WHICH STORM DAMAGED YOU

Baby, we've got disaster declarations multiplying around here like streaming subscriptions.

There is already separate SBA assistance associated with June 2026 storms, including an earlier declaration covering Cook, Will and numerous surrounding counties.

Now we're talking about assistance associated with the July 27 storm.

And we've just experienced another destructive round of storms in August.

THE DATE MATTERS.

Don't change the date.

Don't guess the date.

Don't say July because you heard July has SBA money when your damage actually happened in August.

TELL THEM EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED AND WHEN IT HAPPENED.

Let the SBA representative determine which declaration or program applies.

šŸ”“ LADY RED SAYS...

THIS is why I wanted to break this story all the way down.

Because the headline:

ā€œSBA OPENS DISASTER LOAN CENTERSā€

sounds like somebody is opening the doors tomorrow morning and yelling:

ā€œCOME GET SOME MONEY!ā€Ā šŸ˜‚

That is NOT what's happening.

What IS happening is potentially extremely helpful.

If you suffered qualifying damage from the July 27 storms, there will be actual SBA representatives sitting right here in Hazel Crest and ChicagoĀ who can look at your situation, answer your questions, explain which disaster loans you may qualify for and help you complete the application.

USE THEM.

And don't automatically disqualify yourself because:

ā€œI rent.ā€

ā€œI don't own a business.ā€

ā€œI have insurance.ā€

ā€œI don't have every piece of paperwork yet.ā€

Go get accurate information about your specific situation.

Just don't show up saying:

ā€œLADY RED SAID Y'ALL GOT $500,000 FOR ME.ā€

😭😭😭

Because Lady Red said UP TO $500,000 IN LOANS FOR QUALIFYING HOMEOWNER REAL-ESTATE LOSSES.

Don't get me banned from Hazel Crest Village Hall.
