💔 7-YEAR-OLD GIRL FATALLY STABBED WHILE WALKING IN CHATHAM

CHICAGO — There are some stories where there is no joke, no punchline and no clever Lady Red commentary that belongs anywhere near it.
This is one of them.
Seven-year-old Eddimar Paola Hernandez was fatally stabbed Saturday morning while walking along a sidewalk near 86th Street and South Cottage Grove Avenue in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood.
Chicago police say the attack happened around 11:55 a.m. on October 3.
According to investigators, an adult woman approached the little girl, displayed a sharp object and stabbed her multiple times in the back.
Eddimar was rushed to Comer Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
💔 SHE WAS WALKING WITH HER SISTER
Eddimar's family says she was walking with her older sister before the attack.
Surveillance video captured the child walking along the sidewalk shortly before she was killed. Other video showed witnesses rushing toward the scene after the attack.
And what those witnesses did next deserves to be acknowledged.
They didn't just stand there recording.
Police say bystanders intervened, chased down the woman accused of attacking Eddimar and detained her until officers arrived.
Ald. Michelle Harris later thanked those witnesses, saying their quick actions may have prevented anyone else from being harmed.
🚨 WOMAN NOW CHARGED WITH MURDER
Chicago police announced Sunday that 48-year-old Shavon Gayden has been charged with one felony count of first-degree murder in Eddimar's death.
Gayden was injured while being detained by witnesses and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries before being placed into police custody. She is scheduled for a detention hearing Monday.
Investigators have not announced a motive.
Authorities also have not publicly established any relationship between Gayden and Eddimar.
🕯️ CHATHAM REMEMBERS EDDIMAR
On Sunday, Eddimar's family and members of the community gathered near the place where she was killed.
They lit candles, released white balloons and left candy in memory of the little girl.
Her stepfather described Eddimar simply:
She was happy. She had dreams.
And that is the part that hurts.
Seven years old.
Walking down a Chicago sidewalk with her sister.
Doing something a child should be able to do without anybody ever thinking twice about whether she'll make it home.
❤️ THE BOOM BOTTOM LINE
There is nothing funny to say here.
Nothing sarcastic.
Nothing to dress up.
A little girl lost her life.
Her family deserves answers.
They deserve justice.
And Eddimar deserves to be remembered for more than the horrible way her life ended.
Tonight, we're keeping Eddimar Paola Hernandez, her family, her sister who was there, and the entire Chatham community in our thoughts.
Rest peacefully, little one. 🕊️
