TIPP CITY, OHIO 💥 A former American Idol contestant and worship pastor who once publicly talked about how much he loved his wife has now been convicted of murdering her.

An Ohio jury found 40-year-old Caleb Flynn guilty on all nine charges in connection with the February 16, 2026 killing of his wife, 37-year-old Ashley Flynn, a teacher, volleyball coach and mother of two. The charges included aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence. CBS News

And this case? Baby, the TEXT MESSAGES were talking.

đź’” PROSECUTORS SAID THERE WAS NO MYSTERY INTRUDER

Flynn called 911 claiming an intruder had broken into the couple's Tipp City home and shot Ashley while he was elsewhere inside.

Prosecutors argued that story was staged.

Investigators testified that damage to a garage door was inconsistent with someone forcing their way inside. Surveillance evidence also failed to show an intruder approaching the home around the time Ashley was killed. CBS News

📱 THEN CAME THE AFFAIR AND THOUSANDS OF MESSAGES

During the trial, jurors heard testimony about Flynn's approximately 18-month affair with Alleigha Botner, a woman he met through the church where they both worked.

Botner testified about their relationship and messages between the two.

According to evidence presented at trial, Flynn repeatedly wrote about wanting Ashley dead or gone. Prosecutors also presented messages sent shortly before the killing in which Flynn told Botner that he chose her, referred to becoming free and said actions would come the following day. CBS News

Digital evidence became another major part of the prosecution's case. Investigators testified that Flynn's devices showed activity and movement during a period when he claimed he had been asleep. ABC News

⚖️ THE DEFENSE SAID AN AFFAIR DOESN'T MAKE SOMEONE A MURDERER

Flynn's attorneys challenged the prosecution's circumstantial case.

They emphasized that the gun was never recovered, Ashley's blood was not found on Flynn or his clothing, and Flynn was not tested for gunshot residue. The defense argued investigators focused on him after discovering the affair and that being an unfaithful husband was not proof that he committed murder. WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

🎤 THE “AMERICAN IDOL” CONNECTION MAKES THIS EVEN MORE CHILLING

Flynn appeared on Season 12 of American Idol in 2013, describing himself as a music pastor. He received a golden ticket to Hollywood before being eliminated early in the competition.

During his appearance, Flynn spoke affectionately about Ashley and credited her with encouraging him to audition. CBS News

Thirteen years later, a jury convicted him of killing her.

Flynn's bond was revoked following the verdict. Sentencing is scheduled for October 5, and he faces the possibility of life in prison without parole. His defense has indicated an appeal is likely. ABC News

From a golden ticket to a guilty verdict.

This isn't reality television.

A mother lost her life. Two children lost their mother. And a family will never be the same.
