Okay, America... we need to talk about the Wi-Fi.
The U.S. Justice Department and FBI announced Wednesday that they have disrupted a massive hacking operation allegedly operated by a Chinese state-sponsored group, and the list of American systems caught up in this mess will make you put your phone on airplane mode just out of principle.
We're talking NASA, the Federal Reserve, Department of Energy, Department of Justice, Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Senate. According to federal officials, those agencies were among the victims or targets of computer intrusion activity connected to the group.
WAIT A DAMN MINUTE.
NASA?!
The Federal Reserve?!
THE SENATE?!
Us over here at 730 Boom Radio would like to know WHO THE HELL BEEN WATCHING THE COMPUTER?! 😂
Because somebody can't get into my Facebook without Facebook sending me 17 emails, three text messages and a notification asking:
“WAS THIS YOU?”
But somebody allegedly creeping around government networks and we got NASA on the list?!
Baby, I don't know what's on them NASA computers, BUT WHATEVER IT IS, CHINA DON'T NEED TO KNOW! 😂
This Goes Back YEARS
Federal authorities say the cyber activity connected to the group, known as QTFY, dates back to at least 2018.
2018?!
So this "ain't" somebody who accidentally wandered into the wrong Zoom meeting.
They allegedly been hanging around the digital neighborhood for YEARS. 😭
According to the Justice Department, QTFY developed two platforms called QScan and QTRouter. QScan could scan for vulnerable internet-connected devices and infect them. Those compromised devices could then become part of QTRouter, which hackers allegedly used to disguise where their cyberattacks were actually coming from.
They allegedly had the computers wearing disguises.

The cyber traffic could appear to come from somewhere outside China, sometimes even from devices located close to the network being targeted.
That's the computer version of somebody breaking into your house, putting on YOUR HOUSECOAT, answering your Ring camera and saying:
“Ain't nobody in here but us.”
SIR, GET OUT MY HOUSE. 😭
And It Wasn't Just Government
Court documents say the targeted networks weren't limited to federal agencies. The operation allegedly went after systems connected to hospitals, telecommunications companies, power companies, financial institutions and defense contractors.
POWER COMPANIES?!
Now hold the hell on.
Y'all can play around with a lot of things.
DON'T PLAY WITH THE LIGHTS.
We already got storms knocking electricity out. We don't need somebody halfway around the world clicking:
“Would you like to restart Chicago?”

Who Does the U.S. Say Was Behind It?
The Justice Department says QTFY was employed by China-based Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology Company and provided hacking services to paying customers that allegedly included China's Ministry of State Security and People's Liberation Army.
That distinction matters because U.S. officials aren't simply saying, “Some hackers happened to live in China.”
They're alleging the operation was connected to Chinese state-sponsored cyber activity.
China, however, disputes U.S. accusations of state-sponsored hacking. The Chinese Embassy told Reuters that China opposes cyberattacks and accused Washington of politicizing cybersecurity and using the issue to smear China.
So basically:
America: IT WAS Y'ALL.
China: NO TF IT WASN'T.
Lady Red: WELL SOMEBODY BETTER EXPLAIN WHY NASA IS IN THIS DAMN STORY. 😭😂
The FBI Says It Shut the Platforms Down
Here's the good news.
The Justice Department obtained court authorization to seize domains that QScan and QTRouter needed to operate. Because those domains were hard-coded into the malware, officials say taking control of them rendered the two platforms inoperable.
GOOD.
Take the domains.
Take the servers.
Take the routers.
Take the keyboards.
Take the mouse.
Take that little pad underneath the mouse.
TAKE THE DAMN DESK.

Because if you're allegedly crawling around NASA, DOJ, the Federal Reserve, NIH, Energy and the Senate, apparently unplugging the whole damn office might be the safest option.
But here's the important part: this does not mean China suddenly hacked every U.S. government agency this week or took control of America's infrastructure. The operation involved intrusions and attempted intrusions stretching across years. Reuters reports that some efforts were unsuccessful, including an attempt involving NASA, while other networks were successfully compromised.
Still...
The fact that hackers allegedly connected to a foreign government were targeting America's money, energy, health, communications and government systems?
Yeah.
That's not somebody stealing your Netflix password.
THAT'S A RED ALERT. 🚨
And America?
Maybe before we start worrying about TikTok knowing what kind of wig somebody ordered...
CAN WE MAKE SURE NOBODY IS IN THE DAMN FEDERAL RESERVE COMPUTER?!
Because apparently the hackers have been trying doors since 2018.
Somebody change the password.
