Baby, the irony department just kicked the damn door open.

For years, Damon “Dame” Dash has been one of hip-hop's loudest voices about ownership. Own your company. Own your work. Control your story. Don't let somebody else make money off your name.

Well...

A federal bankruptcy judge has now approved a process that could allow somebody else to purchase commercial rights connected to DAME DASH'S OWN LIFE STORY.

You cannot write this stuff.

⚖️ YES, THE JUDGE REALLY APPROVED IT

On Tuesday, September 1, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Roberta A. Colton approved a plan submitted by the trustee overseeing Dash's Chapter 7 bankruptcy to auction a package of assets centered on his life story.

And this isn't just somebody buying permission to make one little documentary.

According to reporting on the bankruptcy proceedings, the package includes exclusive worldwide rights connected to Dash's life story, along with his voice, image, likeness, biography and other identifying characteristics.

The buyer would also receive the ability to portray events from Dash's life through the date of his bankruptcy petition.

But WAIT.

There's more.

🎥 THEY'RE GETTING THE ARCHIVES TOO

The winning bidder is also expected to receive more than 100 hours of video footage, photographs and memorabilia connected to Dash's life and career.

And included in the package are rights connected to an unreleased documentary/film project that has already been in development. The materials could potentially be used for multiple movies, documentaries or books.

So somebody isn't just buying a story.

They're potentially buying a whole Dame Dash content starter kit.

💰 THE OPENING BID?

Here comes the part that's gonna make everybody start arguing.

$37,000.

Everlasting Films LLC has already submitted the initial $37,000 bid.

Now before social media starts screaming:

“DAME DASH'S LIFE WAS SOLD FOR $37,000!”

Nope.

That's not what happened.

The $37,000 is the opening bid, not the final sale price.

Other prospective buyers have until September 23 to submit qualifying offers. Because bids must increase in increments of at least $10,000, another bidder would have to come in at $47,000 or higher.

If competing bids qualify, an auction is scheduled for October 1. Judge Colton is expected to consider final approval of the winning sale on October 27.

So as of right now:

Nobody has officially bought Dame Dash's life story for $37,000.

The auction process has been approved.

Big difference.

😬 AND DAME DOESN'T GET THE MONEY

Here's the coldest part.

If these assets are sold, Dash isn't expected to pocket the proceeds.

The money goes to his bankruptcy estate to pay creditors.

Dash filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in September 2025 amid millions of dollars in reported debts and judgments.

And this isn't the first time one of his major assets has ended up on the auction block.

His one-third ownership stake in Roc-A-Fella Records was auctioned in 2024 as part of efforts to satisfy debts and judgments.

Now the asset being monetized is much more personal:

HIM.

🔴 LADY RED SAYS...

Dame...

I ain't even gonna yell.

Because THIS ONE writes its own punchline.

You spent decades telling everybody:

OWN YOUR MASTERS. OWN YOUR COMPANY. OWN YOUR CONTENT. OWN YOUR STORY.

And now bankruptcy court said:

“Speaking of your story... how much y'all wanna start the bidding at?”

😭😭😭

That is a level of irony I don't even think Alanis Morissette prepared us for.

But there's also something serious underneath all the jokes.

This is a hell of a lesson about the difference between having valuable intellectual property and keeping control of valuable assets when creditors and bankruptcy courts become involved.

And before anybody starts clowning Dame too hard, understand what makes this story so fascinating.

Dame Dash was there during one of the most important periods in modern hip-hop history.

Roc-A-Fella. Jay-Z. Music. Fashion. Movies. Business relationships. Breakups. Lawsuits. Behind-the-scenes footage.

There could be tremendous commercial value in telling that story.

Which makes that $37,000 opening bid look even crazier.

Somebody could eventually pay substantially more.

And if they do?

The man who spent years telling everybody else to control their narrative could watch someone else acquire a package specifically designed to commercially tell his.

WHEW.

That's not tea.

That's the whole damn kettle. 🫖

🎥 WATCH

Dash previously publicly reacted when reports emerged that the bankruptcy trustee was seeking permission to sell his life rights. His response was posted to Instagram and subsequently reported by iHeart.

The next date to watch is September 23, when competing bids are due. If qualifying bids arrive, October 1 could bring the actual auction.

And trust me...

I wanna see who bids. 👀
