Baby, Elon Musk has enough information.

He knows what folks are saying on X. His companies put satellites in space. He's building robots. He's got rockets flying around.

WHY DO YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT LINK I CLICKED AT 2:17 IN THE AFTERNOON?! 😭

Now, before somebody says Lady Red is being dramatic, America PAC's own privacy policy backs up the important part of this story.

Musk's political organization, America PAC, is behind a website called VoteSafe.org, which presents itself as a place where Americans can check their voter-registration information.

Sounds innocent enough.

“Let me make sure I'm registered.”

Okay.

But baby, apparently while you're checking on your voter registration, VoteSafe may be checking on YOU.

👀 WHAT DOES VOTESAFE ASK FOR?

The site's voter-registration checker asks users for information including their:

Name. Date of birth. Mailing address. ZIP code. City and state.

It also provides fields for an email address and cell phone number if you sign up for reminders. The site tells users that providing those contact details constitutes consent to receive communications from America PAC.

But that's only the front door.

VoteSafe's privacy policy says America PAC may collect information directly from you, passively while you're using the site, and from third parties.

The policy says collected information can include physical addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers and political information, including political affiliation, political opinions, candidates or issues that interest someone, where they're registered and information concerning how they vote.

I JUST CAME TO CHECK MY REGISTRATION.

Why does this sound like I'm filling out an application to become Elon's emergency contact?

An investigation into VoteSafe's data practices reported that the site's tracking can collect technical and browsing information including a visitor's IP address, approximate location, device/browser information, referring website, pages viewed and links clicked. 

So now Lady Red has questions.

Why do you need my home address AND my phone number AND my political interests AND information about what I'm clicking?

Sir.

You are checking my voter registration.

You are not adopting me. 😭

💰 AND HERE'S THE PART THAT MADE MY EYEBROW CLOCK IN FOR OVERTIME

America PAC's own privacy policy says some categories of personal information may be shared with business partners for targeted marketing or may be “sold” as that term is defined under applicable privacy laws.

And before everybody starts imagining Elon standing behind a folding table selling spreadsheets for $9.99, the policy explains that under some state privacy laws, “selling” can include exchanging or sharing information with third parties even when money isn't directly exchanged.

The policy specifically says contact information and political information may be shared or sold to business partners where permitted by law.

WAIT A DAMN MINUTE.

You came in trying to find out:

“Am I registered to vote?”

And somehow your information might leave with a frequent-flyer account.

🗳️ THIS ISN'T SOME RANDOM LITTLE WEBSITE EITHER

VoteSafe identifies itself as paid for by America PAC, Musk's political action committee.

And America PAC is pouring serious money into the 2026 midterm elections.

Reuters reported last week that the PAC had a $50 million war chest funded by Musk and had already spent more than $800,000 supporting Republican candidates in competitive congressional races. The organization is expected to play a major role in voter-turnout efforts involving digital advertising, direct mail and door-to-door campaigning.

So this isn't simply a technology company collecting information because somebody wants to sell you a pair of shoes.

This is a political organization collecting voter-related data during an election season.

That's why people should understand exactly what they're agreeing to.

If your goal is simply to verify your official voter registration, you don't have to use a political organization's website.

You can start with the federal government's official Vote.gov site, which directs voters to their appropriate state election resources.

And whichever website you use, READ THE PRIVACY POLICY BEFORE HANDING OVER your phone number, email address, birthday or home address.

Because apparently in 2026, you can't even ask:

“Am I registered to vote?”

without somebody answering:

“Absolutely. Now what's your cell number, address, political affiliation, browsing activity, mother's maiden name, favorite cereal and what you doing Saturday?” 😭
