šØš” FAKE GUN & BOMB THREAT SENDS OAK FOREST HIGH SCHOOL INTO LOCKDOWN: FBI NOW INVESTIGATING

OAK FOREST, ILĀ ā This is the kind of āprankā that isn't funny, isn't harmless and can terrify an entire school full of children in a matter of seconds.
Oak Forest High School was thrown into lockdown Tuesday morning after police received a frightening call from someone claiming to be inside the school with a gun, additional weapons and a homemade explosive device.Ā The caller also threatened to shoot people and claimed someone had already been shot.
Thankfully, after a massive law-enforcement response and a complete sweep of the building, authorities determined the threat was false. No gunman was found. No explosive device was found. Nobody was injured.Ā
But those students and parents didn't know that while it was happening.
š POLICE TREATED IT LIKE THE REAL THING
According to Oak Forest Police, the call came into the department's non-emergency line at approximately 10:45 a.m.
A male caller claimed he was inside a bathroom at Oak Forest High School, located at 15201 Central Avenue. He said he had a firearm, another firearm outside the school and an explosive device he claimed to have made at home.
With allegations that specific, police couldn't shrug their shoulders and assume somebody was playing around.
The area surrounding the reported location was evacuated while the remainder of the school went into lockdown. Numerous agencies responded, and the South Suburban Emergency Response Team conducted a systematic sweep.
Students described sheltering inside darkened classrooms while armed officers went room to room checking that everyone was safe.
That's the part that should make whoever placed this call understand exactly what they caused.
These kids didn't know it was fake.
They thought somebody might actually be inside their school trying to kill them.
šš¾ THANKFULLY, EVERYBODY WAS SAFE
As investigators worked through the call, police began developing information suggesting the threat wasn't legitimate.
But they didn't stop there.
Officers continued clearing the entire building before declaring it safe. Police say they found no firearm, no explosive device and nobody matching the caller's description.Ā Authorities ultimately found no evidence that an armed person or explosive device had ever been inside the school.
No students, employees or responding officers were injured.
Students were eventually dismissed early for the day.
šØ NOW THE FBI WANTS TO KNOW WHO MADE THAT CALL
This story isn't finished.
Oak Forest Police say the investigation into the source of the false threat has been referred to the FBI, with local police continuing to assist as necessary.
And whoever thought this was funny might want to start reconsidering some life choices.
Because you didn't prank a school.
You triggered a major emergency response, terrified students, scared parents, disrupted classes and sent armed tactical officers into a high school.
šļø LADY RED SAYS...
I'm glad this turned out to be fake.
I'm glad those babies went home.
I'm glad we're not reporting another school shooting.
THAT is the good news.
But I need people to stop playing with school threats like they're ordering a damn pizza.
When somebody calls and says there's a gun and a bomb inside a school, police HAVE TO BELIEVE THEM until they can prove otherwise.
And somewhere inside that building was somebody's child sitting quietly in a dark classroom wondering whether they were going to make it home.
That isn't funny.
That isn't entertainment.
And now that the FBI is investigating, whoever made that call may discover exactly how serious one stupid phone call can become.
Tonight, though, Oak Forest gets the headline that matters most:
EVERYBODY MADE IT HOME.Ā ā¤ļøšš¾
