🚨 FROM GEORGIA TO VEGAS TO L.A.: WEEKEND VIOLENCE LEAVES PEOPLE DEAD, DOZENS HURT & CHICAGO RAPPER LUCKI INJURED
Updated: Oct 5

730 BOOM NEWS — Different cities. Different events. Same disturbing weekend.
A homecoming celebration in Georgia erupted in massive gunfire.
A popular Las Vegas arts festival ended with a 15-year-old dead.
And in Los Angeles, Chicago rapper Lucki was caught up in a bloody altercation outside ComplexCon that left multiple people injured.
Three completely separate incidents.
Three crowds that came together expecting to have a good time.
And once again, violence crashed the party.
🔫 GEORGIA: 2 DEAD, DOZENS INJURED AT HOMECOMING BLOCK PARTY
This one was massive.
More than 1,000 people had gathered for a neighborhood block party in Vienna, Georgia, during Dooly County High School's homecoming weekend when gunfire erupted around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Authorities say 21-year-old Jaquevion Jackson and 23-year-old Macaleb Jackson were killed.
Another 35 people were injured, with victims ranging from 14 to 51 years old. Officials were still determining exactly how many of those injuries were gunshot wounds.
And we're not talking about somebody firing one or two shots.
The Dooly County sheriff said more than 50 shots were fired in at least two locations about a block apart.
Deputies were already nearby because of the size of the crowd. As they responded to the first gunfire, more shots erupted nearby.
As of Sunday evening, authorities had announced no arrests and no confirmed motive. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
One important distinction: although the gathering happened during homecoming weekend, officials said it was not an official school-sponsored event.
🎨 LAS VEGAS: 15-YEAR-OLD KILLED AT FIRST FRIDAY
Then there was Las Vegas.
Friday night's popular First Friday arts and culture celebration in the Las Vegas Arts District was nearing its end when gunfire erupted around 10:17 p.m. near Charleston Boulevard and Main Street.
Three teenagers were shot.
One died.
The teen killed has now been identified by his family as 15-year-old Carth Onasi Jacobs-Rodgers, a sophomore at Desert Pines High School and the oldest of nine siblings.
Police said the shooting appeared to have grown out of a fight. The other two teenagers suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening.
And here's what makes that even more unsettling:
Police were already there.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police had additional officers assigned specifically to First Friday because the event draws large crowds. Officers said they heard the gunfire and immediately rushed toward it.
First Friday organizers confirmed the shooting occurred during the final minutes of the event and said they were considering what response would be appropriate before future events.
A monthly celebration of art, food, music and community ended with somebody's child not coming home.
That's devastating.
🩸 LOS ANGELES: CHICAGO RAPPER LUCKI INJURED OUTSIDE COMPLEXCON
Meanwhile in Los Angeles, Chicago-born rapper Lucki was caught up in a violent confrontation outside ComplexCon on Saturday afternoon.
Videos circulating online appear to show the 30-year-old rapper involved in a fight outside the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Another video appears to show Lucki getting into a vehicle with a bloody wound near his jaw or neck.
Los Angeles police confirmed officers responded around 4:45 p.m. to a fight involving multiple people near Chick Hearn Court and Georgia Street.
Police said four people suffered injuries consistent with stab wounds or lacerations. Two were transported to a hospital, another person went to a hospital independently, and a fourth declined medical treatment at the scene.
Here's where we need to be careful:
Multiple outlets have reported that Lucki was stabbed, and video appears to show him with a significant wound. But LAPD did not publicly identify Lucki as one of the stabbing victims in its statement.
So right now, the confirmed version is:
Lucki was visibly injured during the altercation, while police confirmed multiple people suffered apparent knife-related injuries.
ComplexCon said the incident happened on a public street outside its event footprint.
đź’” THREE CITIES. THREE EVENTS. SAME QUESTION.
Georgia.
Las Vegas.
Los Angeles.
A homecoming celebration.
An arts festival.
A hip-hop convention.
People showed up to socialize, celebrate, listen to music, eat, shop and go home.
Instead, somewhere along the way, somebody decided a disagreement needed a weapon.
And that's the part that's getting exhausting.
You shouldn't have to wonder whether you're coming home because you went to a block party.
You shouldn't have to worry about your teenager getting shot at an arts festival.
And every argument in a parking lot or on a sidewalk does not need to become somebody's emergency-room visit.
đź’Ą THE BOOM BOTTOM LINE
We can talk about security.
We can talk about police presence.
We can talk about event organizers.
And all of those conversations matter.
But there is another conversation we keep dancing around:
Why can't people argue anymore without somebody reaching for a gun or a blade?
A disagreement is supposed to end with somebody mad.
Maybe somebody gets blocked.
Maybe somebody gets cussed out.
Maybe you go home still talking about what you should've said.
Everybody doesn't have to bleed.
This weekend, families in Georgia and Las Vegas are planning funerals instead of talking about how much fun they had.
That isn't entertainment.
That isn't "keeping it real."
That's somebody's son who isn't coming home.
