🎤 LIL DURK HAS A MESSAGE FOR THE YOUTH AFTER MURDER-FOR-HIRE ACQUITTAL: CHOOSE GROWTH

CHICAGO | After being acquitted in his federal murder-for-hire case, Chicago rapper Lil Durk is using the moment to speak directly to young people about something bigger than music, fame or courtrooms: changing the direction of your life.

Durk shared a video highlighting some of his community work while addressing young people who may feel trapped by where they come from or what they've experienced.

He acknowledged that a person's environment can have a powerful influence on how they think, the decisions they make and even what they believe is possible for their future. But his message was that your surroundings don't have to write the ending of your story.

One line especially stood out:

“Growth is real, and it’s never too late to choose a different direction.”

Durk also said he believes he has a responsibility to use his platform to motivate young people and create opportunities for the next generation. His message ended with three choices: your future, your family and growth. 

And for Chicago, that message hits a little differently.

Durk isn't speaking about difficult environments from the outside looking in. He came out of Englewood, became one of Chicago's biggest rap stars and has also used his Neighborhood Heroes Foundation to support young people through community programs and career opportunities.

His statement comes after a federal jury in Los Angeles found him not guilty on all counts connected to the 2022 shooting that targeted rapper Quando Rondo.

But let's clear up one thing before social media gets to social-media-ing:

Lil Durk is NOT free yet.

Although he was acquitted in the murder-for-hire case, Durk remains in federal custody because he faces a separate federal racketeering and firearms trial scheduled for October 5.

Still, there is something worth hearing in what he's telling the youth.

You can come from a rough neighborhood. You can make bad decisions. You can have people around you telling you that one lifestyle is the only lifestyle available to you.

And you can still choose differently.

Now THAT is a message Chicago's young people need to hear more often.
