LIL DURK’S MURDER-FOR-HIRE TRIAL IS UNDERWAY... AND NOW OTF MEMBERS ARE TAKING THE STAND AGAINST HIM

The federal murder-for-hire trial of Chicago rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, is officially underway in Los Angeles, and baby, there is A LOT happening in that courtroom.

We're going to break this down carefully because social media has already turned the trial into 47 different stories, and some of them are leaving out some VERY important details.

First, the big question everybody keeps asking:

🐀 ARE THE STREETS CALLING LIL DURK A SNITCH?

Yes, some people online absolutely are.

But there's an important distinction.

The “snitch” debate surrounding Durk exploded after his DEFENSE ATTORNEYS pointed the finger at his former assistant, Kavon “OTF Vonni” Grant, arguing that Grant, not Durk, was responsible for organizing the alleged murder plot.

That's why you're seeing people online saying things like, “Durk telling,” “Durk snitching,” and comparing his defense strategy to other controversial hip-hop cases. Complex reports that the first week of the trial has sparked exactly that debate.

BUT HOLD TF UP.

Durk himself has not taken the witness stand and testified against anybody.

He hasn't pleaded guilty.

He hasn't signed a cooperation agreement with prosecutors.

His lawyers are arguing that somebody else committed the crime their client is accused of committing.

That's called a third-party culpability defense, and legally, that's very different from Durk becoming a government cooperating witness.

Now whether the STREETS recognize that distinction?

Baby, you already know the streets got their own damn Supreme Court.

But if we're reporting facts, saying “Lil Durk turned federal informant” would be FALSE based on what's happened so far.

And there's an even bigger twist:

👀 PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY TESTIFYING AGAINST DURK.

Not just lawyers arguing.

ACTUAL OTF ASSOCIATES.

⚖️ WHAT IS DURK ACCUSED OF?

Federal prosecutors allege Durk orchestrated a 2022 murder-for-hire plot targeting rapper Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman.

Prosecutors say the alleged plot was retaliation for the 2020 killing of King Von, Durk's close friend and OTF artist.

King Von was killed during an altercation outside an Atlanta hookah lounge involving Quando Rondo's group.

Nearly two years later, on August 19, 2022, prosecutors say a group connected to OTF tracked Quando Rondo around Los Angeles before opening fire on his Cadillac Escalade near a gas station by the Beverly Center.

Quando survived.

His cousin, Saviay'a “Lul Pab” Robinson, was killed.

Authorities say at least 18 shots were fired.

Durk has pleaded NOT GUILTY and maintains that he did not order the shooting.

That's important.

These are allegations, and Durk has not been convicted.

🧑🏾‍⚖️ PROSECUTORS SAY DURK WAS THE BOSS

The government's theory is pretty straightforward:

They say Durk wanted revenge for King Von.

They allege he offered money or rewards for Quando Rondo's killing and that OTF associates carried out the plan.

Prosecutors say the men traveled from Chicago to California, tracked Quando around Los Angeles and ultimately attacked his vehicle.

They've presented flight records, surveillance footage, financial records, alleged communications and other evidence they say connects the operation back to Durk and his business.

One message prosecutors have emphasized allegedly came from Durk:

“Don't book no flights under no names involved wit me.”

The government argues that's evidence Durk was attempting to distance himself from the travel arrangements.

The defense says the government is reading criminal meaning into things that don't prove Durk ordered a murder.

💳 THE CREDIT CARD AND TRAVEL EVIDENCE

This is another major piece of the government's case.

Investigators traced airline tickets to an American Express account associated with Astronaut Soundz, Durk's music-management company.

According to testimony, that account had cards associated with several people, including Durk and others connected to his business.

Flight records placed several defendants traveling to Southern California shortly before the shooting.

And this is where Durk's defense says prosecutors have the WRONG MAN.

👉🏾 DURK'S LAWYERS ARE POINTING AT OTF VONNI

Durk's attorneys have told jurors that Kavon “OTF Vonni” Grant, Durk's former personal assistant/right-hand man, was actually responsible for organizing the operation.

Defense attorney Marissa Goldberg told jurors:

“Mr. Banks had nothing to do with it. He was not there. He had nothing to do with it.”

The defense says Grant had access to the company credit card and allegedly handled critical logistics.

According to the defense, Grant:

arranged transportation and accommodations, purchased ski masks and obtained vehicles connected to the alleged operation.

Durk's lawyers contend Grant is now blaming Durk because prosecutors wanted a “big fish”, and Grant had an incentive to give them one.

AND THAT RIGHT THERE IS WHAT STARTED THE “DURK SNITCHING” ARGUMENT ONLINE.

People basically said:

“Wait... Durk's lawyers blaming Vonni?!”

And the Internet courtroom immediately opened for business.

😭

But again:

A DEFENSE LAWYER SAYING ANOTHER PERSON COMMITTED THE CRIME IS NOT THE SAME THING AS DURK SIGNING A COOPERATION AGREEMENT.

😳 NOW HERE COMES OTF JAM

And THIS is where the trial got serious.

Kacey Hester, better known as OTF Jam, has taken the witness stand for the government.

And Jam isn't some random dude prosecutors found.

He says he's known Durk since 2007, when they were teenagers.

Hester testified that both were associated with the Black Disciples, that they remained connected while Hester was incarcerated, and that Durk put money on his prison books and helped pay for his lawyer.

After Hester was released, he reconnected with Durk and became part of his circle.

And now?

HE IS TESTIFYING AGAINST DURK.

💣 OTF JAM ADMITTED HIS OWN ROLE

Jam isn't telling jurors:

“I heard somebody did something.”

He has pleaded guilty in connection with the killing of Lul Pab and admitted his own participation.

He told the jury that Lul Pab wasn't his enemy.

Asked about Robinson, Hester testified:

“He was innocent. I didn't have no beef with him.”

He also said he didn't personally have beef with Quando Rondo.

According to Hester:

“That's some rap stuff. I'm not on that level.” 

That is potentially powerful testimony for prosecutors because he's admitting criminal responsibility while claiming the motive originated somewhere else.

But it also gives Durk's lawyers a HUGE target.

Because Jam made a deal.

🗣️ JAM SAYS HE HEARD DURK TALK ABOUT KILLING QUANDO

Hester testified that after King Von's death, Durk was upset about people trolling him online.

According to Jam:

“It was getting to him.”

Then came the allegation at the heart of the government's case.

Hester says he heard Durk discussing Quando Rondo and Lul Timm during a conversation at an Atlanta studio.

Later, Hester says he received instructions to fly to San Diego with Asa Houston.

Hester testified that Durk was allegedly connected to the call, although Durk did not personally take calls from the men traveling west.

Hester attributed this statement to Durk:

“If motherf*s catch Quando Rondo or Lul Timm, they gon' be straight. They ain't gotta worry about nothing.”

Hester says he understood that to mean whoever carried out the killing would be taken care of financially or otherwise.

That is one of the strongest direct allegations jurors have heard against Durk so far.

🔫 JAM DESCRIBED HOW THE ALLEGED HIT CAME TOGETHER

According to Hester's testimony, after arriving in Southern California, the group was transported in a black Sprinter van.

He says they went to Walmart and bought black hoodies and gloves.

Hester testified that Kavon Grant supplied weapons.

And here's another detail:

Jam says Durk referred to the crew as the “Navy Seals.” 

Hester also described what he says was an earlier failed attempt to get Quando Rondo.

According to his testimony, the group planned to ambush Quando outside the Level Hotel in Los Angeles.

Hester claimed rapper Doodie Lo allegedly had a dispensary worker try to get Quando to come outside to retrieve a delivery.

The men allegedly waited outside.

But according to Jam, there was too much police activity around the area.

So...

THEY ABORTED THE PLAN. 

The next day came the shooting that killed Lul Pab.

👖 AND WOULD YOU BELIEVE SOME DAMN PANTS HELPED CRACK THIS CASE?!

I'm not making this up.

Investigators testified that one clue that helped move the investigation forward was a pair of pants.

After the shooting, surveillance cameras captured suspects at an In-N-Out Burger.

One man was wearing black pants with:

“RATS TO RICHES”

printed down the leg.

Baby...

The irony arrived EARLY.

Detective Warner Carias testified that facial recognition wasn't producing results, so he searched online for the pants.

Investigators discovered they were sold at shops on Chicago's South Side.

That eventually helped investigators connect one of the men to Deandre “OTF DeDe” Wilson.

From there, investigators examined Wilson's social media, photographs and connections to other defendants.

One photo reportedly showed Wilson with Durk and OTF Jam. 

Imagine getting jammed up because the detective Googled your damn pants.

2026 IS DIFFERENT.

🎥 DURK'S MUSIC IS ALSO PART OF THE CASE

Before trial, prosecutors fought to introduce some of Durk's music as evidence.

The judge allowed prosecutors to use portions of “Pissed Me Off” and its music video.

Prosecutors argue the material helps establish Durk's alleged desire for revenge after King Von's death.

Durk's attorneys say prosecutors are twisting artistic expression into evidence of criminal intent and have argued portions of the song concern the death of Durk's brother, not a plan to kill Quando.

The judge excluded some other lyrical evidence prosecutors wanted to introduce.

Jurors have also been shown an unreleased “Redman” video during the trial.

So this case isn't just:

HE SAID / HE SAID.

The jury is being asked to evaluate witnesses, surveillance footage, financial records, travel records, communications AND music.

🎙️ NOW HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE TESTIFYING AGAINST DURK?

This needs clarification because there are two different numbers floating around.

Federal prosecutors indicated before trial that they expected to call approximately:

35 TOTAL WITNESSES

with roughly:

20 described as substantive/key witnesses.

That DOES NOT mean 35 people are “snitching on Lil Durk.”

Those witnesses can include law enforcement, investigators, records custodians, experts and other witnesses used to authenticate evidence or explain the investigation. The government sought to keep its witness list sealed, citing concerns about threats and safety.

The number everybody in hip-hop is really talking about is:

THREE COOPERATING CO-CONSPIRATORS.

The Los Angeles Times reports that three alleged co-conspirators accepted plea deals and agreed to testify. 

They include:

Kacey “OTF Jam” Hester

Kavon “OTF Vonni” Grant

and

Keith Jones, also known as Flacka.

Jam is already testifying.

Jones has pleaded guilty in connection with Robinson's killing and is expected to testify.

Grant is also expected to testify later.

So when somebody says:

“35 PEOPLE ARE SNITCHING ON DURK!”

NO.

That's not what the reporting says.

The government has approximately 35 expected witnesses overall, around 20 substantive witnesses, and three cooperating alleged co-conspirators who took plea deals and agreed to testify.

That distinction matters.

🐀 AND JAM HIMSELF USED THE WORD “SNITCHING”

Here's where this gets REALLY interesting.

During testimony Thursday, Jam acknowledged what cooperating with the government means in the gang world.

Asked about informing, Hester said:

“As a Black Disciple, snitching is breaking all laws; it's a death sentence.”

He acknowledged that testifying could put his life in danger.

So while the Internet is arguing over whether Durk's lawyers pointing at Vonni makes DURK a snitch...

One of Durk's former associates is literally sitting in federal court saying:

YES, I'M TESTIFYING AND I KNOW WHAT THE STREETS CALL IT.

Chile.

This trial has layers like a damn onion.

🔍 DURK'S LAWYERS ARE ATTACKING THE COOPERATORS' CREDIBILITY

And this may become one of the biggest battles of the entire trial.

Durk's attorney Brian Steel, who represented Young Thug in Georgia's YSL case, has begun aggressively challenging Jam's credibility.

The defense wants jurors asking:

Why should we believe somebody who participated in a murder and now has something to gain by helping prosecutors convict Durk?

There's another interesting issue involving the investigation.

During earlier cross-examination, Steel highlighted how many times cooperating witnesses had reportedly spoken with investigators compared with how many interviews were recorded.

According to reporting on Detective Warner Carias' testimony:

OTF Jam was interviewed approximately 30 times, with only three sessions recorded.

Keith Jones reportedly had five interviews involving Carias, with one recorded.

Kavon Grant reportedly had 10 interviews involving Carias, with none recorded. 

THAT is something Durk's defense is likely going to hammer.

Because the obvious defense argument is:

What was said during all those conversations we can't hear?

Were stories changing?

Were witnesses being pressured?

Were deals being discussed?

Or were these simply routine investigative interviews?

That's ultimately for the jury to weigh.

✈️ AND WHAT ABOUT THE “DURK TRIED TO FLEE” ALLEGATION?

Prosecutors have also argued that Durk's behavior immediately before his October 2024 arrest demonstrated consciousness of guilt.

After several alleged OTF associates were arrested, prosecutors say Durk had international travel booked, including flights involving Dubai, Switzerland and a private flight to Italy.

Authorities arrested him near Miami International Airport before he left the country.

His defense disputes the government's characterization of those travel plans as proof that he was fleeing.

Again:

Booked travel is evidence prosecutors can argue from. It is not itself proof Durk ordered a murder.

⚖️ SO WHERE DOES THE CASE ACTUALLY STAND RIGHT NOW?

As of August 28, 2026, we're still early in the trial.

The government is building its case.

The prosecution's biggest development so far is OTF Jam taking the stand and directly connecting Durk to the alleged plot.

But Durk's defense hasn't presented its own case yet.

And that matters.

A criminal trial isn't over because one witness says something devastating.

Durk's lawyers get to cross-examine the government's witnesses, attack their credibility, expose inconsistencies, challenge physical and digital evidence and eventually present their own evidence.

The government has to prove Durk's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Durk maintains his innocence.

So if somebody asks you what's happening in the Lil Durk trial, here's the clean version:

The government says Durk ordered revenge for King Von's death.

Durk says he didn't.

Durk's lawyers say Kavon Grant was the mastermind.

Grant is expected to testify against Durk.

OTF Jam has already pleaded guilty and is now testifying against Durk.

Keith Jones also pleaded guilty and is expected to testify.

Three alleged co-conspirators have plea deals and agreed to testify.

The government expects about 35 witnesses total, roughly 20 substantive ones ...meaning OTHER WITNESS🫤.

And yes...

THE STREETS ARE ARGUING ABOUT WHO'S A SNITCH.

Some people are calling Durk one because his lawyers blamed Vonni.

Other people are saying:

“TF?! That's his LAWYER defending him. Meanwhile THREE PEOPLE TOOK PLEAS AND ARE ACTUALLY TESTIFYING FOR THE GOVERNMENT.”

And legally?

That second distinction matters.

Because defending yourself by saying somebody else committed the crime and cooperating with prosecutors against another defendant are not the same thing.

Now whether the streets give a damn about legal definitions?

Baby...

THAT'S A WHOLE DIFFERENT COURTROOM. 😭

And we haven't even heard from all three cooperating witnesses yet.

This trial is JUST getting started.
