🍗 WHOSE HAROLD’S IS THIS?!
Updated: Oct 6

📍ROBBINS, IL — Baby, Harold’s Chicken is usually where the arguments are supposed to be about mild sauce, lemon pepper and whether your fries belong underneath the chicken. But this time, the fight is much bigger than the menu.
A Robbins restaurant operating under the Harold’s Chicken name has found itself caught in a legal and business dispute over whether it actually has permission to use the famous Chicago brand.
Harold’s Chicken Corporation says the Robbins operation is not an authorized Harold’s location and wants the restaurant to stop using its name and branding. The dispute reportedly includes demands involving either removing the Harold’s identity or paying for continued use of the name.
Harold’s Chicken Corporation reportedly gave the Robbins operation a choice: stop using the Harold’s name and branding, or pay $3,000 a month for continued use. That adds up to $36,000 a year just to keep the Harold’s name on the building.
But WAIT. Because apparently one problem wasn't enough.
The Village of Robbins owns the property, and village officials have raised their own issues involving unpaid rent and the operation of gambling machines at the establishment.
And the controversy comes after something far more serious.
The location was also the scene of a deadly shooting in August. Robbins Mayor Darren Bryant was grazed by gunfire, another person was wounded, and a man was killed after an armed security guard returned fire.
Now Harold’s Chicken Corporation is trying to separate its brand from the troubled location.
And in a Chicago plot twist nobody had on the bingo card, former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is representing Harold’s Chicken Corporation in the dispute.
LADY RED SAYS…
Now wait a damn minute. 😂
Harold’s corporate saying:
“That ain’t OUR Harold’s.”
Robbins saying:
“And where is OUR rent?”
Then somebody hollering about gambling machines.
And here comes Lori Lightfoot with a briefcase.
Chile, this ain't a chicken franchise anymore. This is a whole eight-episode streaming series. 🍿🍗
Because Chicago people take Harold’s SERIOUSLY. You can't just throw a rooster on the building, drop some mild sauce in a cup and declare yourself part of the family.
So until everybody figures out who owns what, who owes what, and who is allowed to call themselves Harold’s, I have one question:
IS THE CHICKEN GOOD OR NOT? 😭🍗
