Sad news out of the Braxton family today.

Von Scales, businessman, former college basketball player and husband of singer and reality-TV personality Trina Braxton, has died at 58. A representative for the family confirmed his passing Thursday, October 1. People.com

According to TMZ, sources close to the family said Scales died early Thursday morning in Atlanta. Those sources said he had experienced heart-related problems, but at this time no official cause of death has been released. TMZ

Scales' health had previously become part of the family's television story. In a 2025 episode of The Braxtons, he discussed a hospitalization involving heart and fluid-related medical issues. That history should not, however, be treated as confirmation of what caused his death. International Business Times UK

Trina and Von met through mutual friends and married in December 2019 in St. Louis. Their wedding was featured on Braxton Family Values, and viewers later saw more of their marriage on The Braxtons. People.com

Their relationship became particularly meaningful to fans because Trina spoke publicly about how supportive Von had been during one of the hardest periods of her life.

Before marrying Von, Trina had been married to Gabe Solis. Solis died in 2018, several years after their divorce. Trina later said Von stood beside her while she grieved her former husband, even though she understood that watching his fiancée mourn another man could not have been easy. People.com

She also described her relationship with Von as something different from her previous marriages: a partnership in which they could actually build a future together and lean on one another. People.com

And now, just seven years after they married, that future has been cut painfully short.

The Braxton family is asking the public to respect their privacy while they mourn.
