Well...

A Twitter is back.

Because apparently somebody looked at Elon Musk changing Twitter into X, throwing the little blue bird out the window, changing “tweets” into “posts” and said:

“So... y’all still using that name or nah?”

A Virginia startup called Operation Bluebird has officially launched a new social-media platform called Twitter.now, complete with the familiar Twitter name and blue-bird imagery.

And before you start looking for Elon...

HE AIN’T GOT S**T TO DO WITH THIS ONE.

Operation Bluebird is an independent company and says it is not affiliated with X Corp. One of its co-founders is Stephen Coates, who previously worked as Twitter’s trademark counsel before the Musk era.

Now THAT little detail right there...

You used to work with the trademarks...

And now you're helping somebody argue that your old company abandoned them?!

And THIS is where the story gets good.

Operation Bluebird argues that when Musk rebranded Twitter as X in 2023, the company abandoned trademarks connected to Twitter, Tweet and the famous bird.

Remember when Elon basically told us:

“It's X now.”

No more Twitter.

No more tweets.

No more bird.

X. X. X.

Okay, sir.

Because Operation Bluebird apparently heard:

“FREE STUFF ON THE CURB.”

In December 2025, Operation Bluebird petitioned the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office seeking cancellation of several Twitter-related trademarks, arguing X had abandoned them.

X responded:

ABSOLUTELY TF NOT.

X sued Operation Bluebird in federal court and sought to stop it from launching the competing Twitter service. X's position is essentially that changing the company's branding did not mean surrendering its trademark rights.

And to be fair...

That's a real legal question.

You can't necessarily walk past somebody's garage because they haven't driven their old Cadillac in three years and say:

“Well, apparently you abandoned it. Gimme the keys.”

👨🏽‍⚖️ BUT THEN THE JUDGE MADE THIS REAL INTERESTING

At an April hearing, U.S. District Judge Colm Connolly tentatively indicated from the bench that X appeared to have abandoned rights involving the word “Tweet” and the Twitter bird logo, and possibly the word “Twitter” itself.

BUT...

And this is a big BUT...

There has not been a final written ruling declaring that Operation Bluebird owns those trademarks.

That legal fight is still going.

Operation Bluebird apparently got tired of waiting.

Stephen Coates told Ars Technica:

“We have waited months and months to launch, and we are not going to wait anymore.” 

Translation:

“FUCK IT. TURN THE WEBSITE ON.”

Operation Bluebird says it isn't simply rebuilding the Twitter we remember.

The new platform is experimenting with a verification system called VERA, which analyzes claims and provides context and trust information. The broader idea is eventually to let users control how much lower-trust material appears in their feeds.

Which sounds wonderful.

But baby...

This is Twitter.

Y'all better make VERA strong.

VERA GONNA NEED BENEFITS.

Because Twitter people can turn:

into a 9,000-post argument involving politics, somebody's mama, Beyoncé, three conspiracy theories and a screenshot from 2014.

VERA gonna clock out the first week talking about:

No.

That's the important part.

This isn't Elon Musk changing X back to Twitter, and it isn't necessarily the original Twitter company being resurrected.

It's a different company launching a new social network under the Twitter name while arguing that X abandoned the rights to that branding.

And X is basically standing across the courtroom yelling:

“THAT'S STILL MY DAMN BIRD!”

Operation Bluebird:

“YOU PUT HIM OUT!”

X:

“BUT THAT'S STILL MY BIRD!”

Bluebird:

“THEN WHY YOU CALL YOURSELF X?!”

The judge:

“EVERYBODY SHUT TF UP.”

And THAT may be the craziest part of this whole story.

Elon Musk spent billions buying Twitter and eventually turned it into X.

Now somebody else has launched something called Twitter...

With the bird...

While X is suing them over whether X still owns the Twitter identity it stopped publicly using.

This is a damn CUSTODY BATTLE FOR A BIRD.
