Well, apparently that little break from direct military action is OVER.

After roughly a month without the United States and Iran directly exchanging military strikes, American forces launched a new wave of attacks against Iranian military targets Tuesday, September 1.

Iran responded by firing missiles and drones toward locations housing U.S. forces and American allies in the Middle East.

So basically:

America: We hit you.

Iran: Well, we hitting you back.

America: Hit us again and we're hitting you HARDER.

Meanwhile, everybody else on Earth is looking around like:

CAN Y'ALL PLEASE STOP BEFORE WE ALL END UP INVOLVED IN THIS S**T?! 😩

💥 WHAT DID THE UNITED STATES HIT?

The U.S. military says its latest operation targeted facilities and equipment connected to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The targets included air-defense sites, radar systems, maritime facilities, communications sites and equipment associated with Iran's ability to deploy sea mines.

The United States says the operation followed Iranian attempts to threaten commercial ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz and American military personnel stationed in the region.

And THAT little strip of water is why folks thousands of miles away need to pay attention.

Because the Strait of Hormuz isn't just some random piece of ocean.

It's one of the world's most important routes for transporting oil.

So when people start launching missiles around there?

THE OIL MARKET STARTS SWEATING.

And eventually your wallet might start sweating right along with it.

🇮🇷 IRAN SAID THEY WEREN'T LETTING THAT SLIDE

Following the American strikes, Iran launched its own retaliatory missile and drone attacks.

Jordan reported detecting 13 ballistic missiles, intercepting 10 of them while three fell in remote areas. Officials there reported no deaths or injuries from that barrage.

Bahrain also reported intercepting Iranian drones.

Now we've got missiles flying over countries that weren't even supposed to be the main characters in this damn argument.

That's exactly how conflicts get bigger.

One country gets hit.

Another country responds.

Somebody's missile lands somewhere it wasn't supposed to.

Another military gets involved.

Then everybody standing around talking about:

“Well, technically THEY started it.”

I don't give a damn who touched who first.

STOP TOUCHING EACH OTHER.

🚢 THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ IS A BIG DAMN DEAL

Here's why Americans who don't follow international politics should still care.

A huge amount of the world's oil and petroleum products travels through the Strait of Hormuz.

Military conflict around that shipping route can make traders nervous, disrupt transportation and push energy prices higher.

And we've already seen oil prices react to the renewed fighting.

Which means this story can travel from Iran...

across the ocean...

through the financial markets...

straight into the giant glowing numbers at your neighborhood gas station.

You could be minding your business in Chicago wondering:

“WHY THE HELL DID GAS JUST JUMP 40 CENTS?!”

And somewhere thousands of miles away two governments are firing missiles at each other.

Welcome to the global economy. 😭

⛽ PLEASE DON'T LET THIS TURN INTO $5 GAS

Because I already know how this movie goes.

Oil prices rise.

Gas prices rise.

Transportation costs rise.

Businesses start paying more to move products.

Then somehow the grocery store wants $9.47 for something that was $6.99 last Tuesday.

And everybody explains it with one magical sentence:

“Due to increased costs...”

NO.

I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT.

I am still recovering from the LAST round of “increased costs.” 😂

😳 AND TRUMP IS WARNING IRAN THERE COULD BE MORE

President Donald Trump has warned Iran that additional retaliation could bring a much stronger American military response.

Iran, meanwhile, has indicated it intends to defend itself and respond to U.S. attacks.

So right now we basically have two governments telling each other:

“DON'T TRY ME.”

That's not particularly comforting when both sides have missiles.

This is not somebody arguing in the Jewel parking lot.

There are tens of thousands of American service members throughout the Middle East.

There are civilians throughout Iran.

There are people living in Jordan, Bahrain and surrounding countries.

There are sailors aboard commercial ships trying to move cargo through the region.

REAL PEOPLE are sitting underneath all this military chest-thumping.

💔 CIVILIANS ARE ALREADY BEING CAUGHT IN IT

Iranian officials say one American strike hit a home in southern Iran where a wedding celebration was taking place, killing civilians and injuring others.

Information from an active conflict can change quickly, and claims from governments involved in a war have to be treated carefully.

But civilian casualties are exactly why escalation is so dangerous.

People attending weddings aren't deciding military strategy.

Children aren't controlling radar systems.

Families aren't commanding missiles.

And American military families sitting at home aren't making these decisions either.

They just know somebody they love is stationed in the middle of it.

That's where this stops being political entertainment.

🌎 THIS COULD GET BIGGER VERY QUICKLY

The biggest story isn't necessarily what happened Tuesday.

It's what happens NEXT.

Does Iran retaliate again?

Does the United States launch another round of strikes?

Does somebody hit a commercial ship?

Does another country get dragged deeper into the fighting?

Does oil keep climbing?

Or does somebody finally decide:

“Maybe we should stop firing shit at each other and TALK.”

Because every military response creates an opportunity for another military response.

And eventually somebody makes a mistake nobody can take back.

📻 730 BOOM BOTTOM LINE

You don't have to be an international-relations expert to understand this one.

The United States attacked Iranian military targets.

Iran retaliated with missiles and drones.

The United States is warning there could be much stronger attacks if Iran continues.

And one of the world's most important oil-shipping routes is sitting right in the middle of the tension.

So yes, Chicago...

THIS IS ONE TO WATCH.

Because international wars have a nasty little habit of eventually showing up in places nobody expected.

Sometimes it's the stock market.

Sometimes it's the gas pump.

Sometimes it's grocery prices.

And sometimes, tragically, it's another family's loved one being sent overseas.

So before somebody decides the answer to Tuesday's missiles is Wednesday's BIGGER missiles...
