CHICAGO, if you've been staring at your phone, restarting it, turning airplane mode on and off, and threatening to throw that $1,200 device across the room... PUT THE PHONE DOWN. 😂
It may not be your phone.
Verizon is dealing with a widespread wireless service outage this Saturday afternoon, August 8, with thousands of customers across parts of the country reporting problems making and receiving phone calls. Verizon has acknowledged an issue affecting voice service for wireless customers in some parts of the United States and says engineers are working to identify and resolve it.
And yes, reports include customers in Illinois and the Chicago area. User reports are also coming from cities and states across the Midwest, East Coast, South and elsewhere.
📱 YOUR PHONE HAS BARS... BUT WON'T PHONE?!
Now THIS is the part making people lose their minds.
Some customers say their mobile data and text messages are still working, while regular voice calls either won't connect, immediately fail or drop.
So your phone can get on Facebook.
You can watch TikTok.
You can send somebody a text.
But try to actually CALL SOMEBODY?
Your $1,200 smartphone suddenly says:
“Ma'am, that's outside my job description.”
🤣🤣🤣
Reports of trouble climbed into the thousands Saturday afternoon, with Downdetector registering more than 12,000 reports at one point, according to current reporting.
🚨 VERIZON SAYS ITS ENGINEERS ARE WORKING ON IT
Verizon says it is aware of the voice-service issue and engineers are working to determine what's causing it and restore service. As of this report, a specific cause has not been publicly announced, and the disruption isn't affecting every Verizon customer.
So no, Verizon hasn't announced:
Aliens.
Hackers.
Mercury being in Gatorade.
Your cousin not paying the family plan.
NONE OF THAT.
We don't know the cause yet.
😂
☎️ BEFORE YOU RESET EVERYTHING...
If your Verizon phone suddenly stopped making calls today, don't immediately start deleting settings, resetting your entire phone and changing things you won't remember how to put back later.
Verizon has an official troubleshooting tool for customers who can't make calls, are experiencing dropped calls or see SOS on their phones.
And because voice calling is affected for some customers, don't assume an ordinary cellular call will work in an emergency. If you need emergency assistance and a call fails, try another available phone/network or other locally supported emergency-contact method.
😂 AND SOMEWHERE RIGHT NOW...
Somebody has restarted their phone 17 times.
Somebody took the SIM card out.
Somebody reset the network settings.
Somebody called Verizon...
AND COULDN'T CALL VERIZON BECAUSE THE PHONE WON'T CALL.
😭😭😭
That's when technology has officially started playing in your face.
For now, Verizon customers experiencing problems will have to wait while engineers work on the network.
And Verizon...
We love you.
But that old slogan is coming back to haunt y'all today:
“CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?”
Apparently...
NO.
🤣📵
730 BOOM RADIO will update this story as Verizon provides more information about the cause and restoration of service.
