🚨 WHITE HOUSE BLOCKS CNN FROM POOL DUTY DESPITE JUDGE’S ORDER

📍WASHINGTON, D.C. 💥 The fight between the Trump White House and several major news organizations just took another turn, and this one has lawyers reaching for the paperwork again.

A federal judge recently ordered the White House to temporarily restore access for CNN, MS NOW and Politico after President Donald Trump barred the organizations from White House grounds. U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly issued a 14-day temporary restraining order, finding that the outlets had shown they were likely to succeed on at least their due-process claim. Reuters

But CNN says that even after its general White House credentials were restored, the administration has continued preventing the network from performing some of its scheduled White House television pool duties. AP News

And THIS is where the legal soup gets thick. 👀

WAIT... WHAT IS THE WHITE HOUSE POOL?

The television pool exists because every television network can't squeeze cameras into every presidential event or onto every trip. Five major networks, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox News, rotate responsibility for covering events and sharing footage with the rest of the press corps. Reuters

CNN was scheduled for pool responsibilities during the dispute, but the White House blocked it from some assignments. CNN was also prevented from accompanying Trump aboard Air Force One for a trip to Tennessee, despite the court order restoring the outlets' broader White House access. Other television networks declined to substitute for CNN on that trip. The Washington Post

Now CNN, MS NOW and Politico have gone back to court asking Kelly to keep the administration from enforcing the ban while their lawsuit proceeds. They argue the White House has applied its restrictions inconsistently even while the temporary order remains in effect. AP News

THE WHITE HOUSE SAYS THIS IS ABOUT ACCESS

The Trump administration argues that being inside the White House is a privilege rather than an automatic right and has defended its authority over who receives access. Trump has accused the organizations of publishing false or negative coverage and has described such reporting as a national-security concern. AP News

The news organizations argue something very different: that they were punished because of their journalism and viewpoints, violating constitutional protections for the press and due process. Reuters

Judge Kelly has already expressed skepticism about the administration's national-security justification. But there is an important wrinkle: his temporary order restored the outlets' White House credentials, while the ruling did not specifically resolve every question surrounding television-pool assignments or Air Force One access. AP

So this isn't quite as simple as:

Judge: “Let CNN in.”White House: “NO.” 😳

The actual legal fight is now partly over what restored access requires and whether excluding CNN from pool duties amounts to continuing the very ban the judge temporarily stopped.

And THAT question could matter far beyond CNN.

This isn't about whether you personally like CNN, Trump, MS NOW, Politico or anybody else.

The bigger issue is how much discretion a president has over press access once the government establishes a system for credentialing journalists, and whether an administration can exclude particular organizations because of their coverage.

The temporary restraining order is scheduled to expire October 8, unless the court extends protection while the lawsuit continues. The Washington Post

So grab the popcorn, but keep the Constitution nearby.

Because this fight ain't finished.
