CHICAGO, IL | 730 BOOM RADIO

Listen...

If you heard a strange noise coming from houses all across Chicago Sunday night, don't be alarmed.

That was just thousands of parents whispering:

ā€œTHANK YOU, JESUS.ā€Ā šŸ˜šŸ˜‚

Because Chicago Public Schools students in kindergarten through 12th grade return to school Monday, August 24, officially beginning the 2026–27 school year. CPS Pre-K students start Tuesday, August 25.

And while the children may be looking at the calendar like somebody ruined their whole life...

THE PARENTS ARE READY.

Summer was cute.

Family time was beautiful.

Making memories was wonderful.

But baby...

WHY ARE Y'ALL ALWAYS HUNGRY?!

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

You JUST ate.

There are dishes in the sink proving you ate.

The DoorDash driver ain't even made it back to his car yet.

And somebody is already standing in the kitchen talking about:

ā€œWhat we eating later?ā€

LATER?!

WE JUST ATE NOW!

😭

That grocery bill been looking like you're feeding the offensive line for the Chicago Bears.

The juice gone.

Chips gone.

Cereal gone.

Lunch meat gone.

Fruit snacks disappeared before you even finished putting the groceries away.

And don't buy the GOOD snacks thinking you're going to hide them.

THEY KNOW.

Children can locate a hidden Little Debbie cake with technology NASA hasn't even discovered yet.

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

šŸŽ’ BUT TODAY? IT'S CPS'S TURN!

Parents, get those backpacks packed.

Charge those Chromebooks.

Find those gym shoes.

And PLEASE find that school ID that somebody swears they haven't seen since June.

Because Monday morning...

BABY, YOU GOT somewhere TO BE!Ā šŸ˜‚

CPS families spent the final weekend of summer getting ready with school supplies, haircuts, hairstyles and community back-to-school events across Chicago.

And you KNOW how Chicago does the first day.

Fresh braids.

Fresh haircut.

Fresh shoes.

Brand-new backpack.

Outfit laid across the bed Sunday night like you're attending the Grammys.

šŸ˜‚

Baby, enjoy that outfit Monday because by October that hoodie is going to be missing, somebody stepped on the shoes, and we're going to be asking:

ā€œWHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THEM PENCILS I BOUGHT?!ā€

You bought 48.

Somehow the child has ONE.

And it ain't even theirs.

😭😭😭

🚸 BUT SERIOUSLY, CHICAGO: SLOW DOWN

With thousands of students returning, drivers need to get back into school-zone mode.

Watch for children crossing streets, school buses making stops and increased traffic around schools.

Leave home a little earlier.

That text message can wait.

That phone call can wait.

THE BABIES HAVE TO GET TO SCHOOL SAFELY.

CPS is also reminding families to make sure students are up to date on required health examinations and immunizations. The district has information available for families who still need help getting everything completed.

šŸ”“ LADY RED SAYS...

Parents...

WE MADE IT.

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

No more:

ā€œI'm bored.ā€

Go to school.

ā€œWhat's for lunch?ā€

Ask the cafeteria.

ā€œCan my friends come over?ā€

NO. They got school too.

ā€œCan you take me...ā€

TAKE YOURSELF TO HOMEROOM.

šŸ˜šŸ˜‚

And don't let these children fool you with that sad face Sunday night.

They've had MONTHS.

Sleeping until noon.

Eating everything that wasn't nailed down.

Running up the electric bill.

Leaving cups in bedrooms like they're building a glassware collection.

Walking past a perfectly good garbage can and leaving wrappers wherever gravity decided they belonged.

VACATION IS OVER, BELOVED.

šŸ˜‚

And parents, enjoy that first quiet moment after drop-off.

Don't clean immediately.

Don't answer anybody.

Don't even turn the television on.

Just sit there.

Listen.

You hear that?

NOTHING.

😭😭😭

Beautiful, ain't it?

But underneath all the jokes, here's the real message from 730 BOOM Radio:

We want every child walking into school Monday to have a safe, successful and exciting school year.

Not every child has brand-new shoes.

Not every family could afford everything on that supply list.

Not every student is excited about returning.

So teach your babies to be kind.

Don't clown another child's clothes.

Don't bully somebody because they're different.

Don't embarrass somebody because they don't have what you have.

And if you've got a little extra, help somebody.

Because being the flyest kid in school is cute.

BEING A GOOD HUMAN IS BETTER. ā¤ļø

To the teachers, principals, counselors, custodians, lunchroom workers, bus drivers, crossing guards, coaches, security staff and everybody else preparing to deal with our little angels...

And by angels, we mean other people's children because we know ours ain't been acting right all summer.

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

We appreciate you.

Have a GREAT school year, Chicago!

And parents...

GO BUY YOURSELF SOME SNACKS MONDAY.

For the first time in months...

THEY MIGHT ACTUALLY STILL BE THERE WHEN YOU COME BACK.Ā šŸ˜šŸ˜‚
