CPS MOVES OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES INSIDE AS CHICAGO HEAT GETS SERIOUS

Chicago Public Schools is moving outdoor activities indoors Thursday because of the dangerous heat. That means schools are adjusting activities that would normally have students outside as temperatures and humidity push conditions into potentially dangerous territory.

The decision comes as the:

Chicago area remains under a Heat Advisory through 9 p.m. Thursday.

with forecasters warning that the combination of high temperatures and humidity can cause heat-related illness.

For parents, this is more than a “drink some water” kind of day. Kids can overheat quickly, particularly during sports, recess and other strenuous activities. Even after school, parents should keep an eye on how much time children spend running around outdoors.

And Chicago, we already watched the heat mess with the DuSable Lake Shore Drive bridge yesterday. Now CPS is bringing the kids inside. At this point, the sun has officially been doing entirely too damn much. ☀️🥵

Keep the babies cool, check on the seniors, keep water nearby and do not leave children or pets sitting in a vehicle, even for a few minutes.
