Drake has officially made music history, becoming the artist with the most No. 1 albums in the history of Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart!

The Toronto superstar secured his 18th No. 1 album with HABIBTI, breaking a tie with hip-hop heavyweight Future and legendary Motown group The Temptations, who each have 17 chart-toppers.

And here's what makes this achievement even bigger: The Temptations had held or shared the record for approximately 60 years!

🔥 HOW DRAKE BROKE THE RECORD

Drake's HABIBTI climbed from No. 35 to No. 1 on Billboard's chart dated October 17, 2026.

The surge followed the October 2 release of HABIBTI (FOMO), a deluxe edition featuring four additional tracks.

The album earned approximately 71,000 equivalent album units in the United States during the tracking week ending October 8, representing a remarkable 506% increase over the previous week.

Even more impressive? Drake knocked his own album, ICEMAN, out of the No. 1 position!

That's right. Drake replaced Drake at the top of the chart!

🏆 THE ALL-TIME LEADERBOARD

Drake now sits above some of the biggest names in music history:

  • Drake: 18 No. 1 albums

  • Future: 17

  • The Temptations: 17

  • JAY-Z: 14

  • Kanye West (Ye): 13

  • R. Kelly: 12

  • Eminem and Lil Wayne: 11 each

The achievement spans generations of musical history, connecting today's streaming era with the Motown legends who helped shape R&B.

🎙️ LADY RED'S TAKE: NOW THAT'S A RECORD!

NOW HOLD ON!

You mean to tell me Drake just broke a record connected to THE TEMPTATIONS?!

THE SAME TEMPTATIONS WHO GAVE US “MY GIRL,” “JUST MY IMAGINATION,” AND “PAPA WAS A ROLLIN' STONE”?

BABY, THAT'S SOME SERIOUS MUSIC HISTORY!

Whether you love Drake, can't stand Drake, or you're still arguing about his rap battles, the numbers are the numbers!

18 NUMBER ONE R&B/HIP-HOP ALBUMS!

And he didn't just pass Future. He passed a legendary Motown group whose chart legacy stretches back to the 1960s!

But here's something worth discussing.

The music industry has changed dramatically since The Temptations dominated the charts. Back then, people were buying physical records. Today, streaming plays a major role in determining chart positions.

So while Drake deserves recognition for this accomplishment, comparing chart success across different generations also tells us how much the music business has evolved.

And one thing is certain:

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE EVERYBODY'S FAVORITE ARTIST TO MAKE HISTORY!

💬 BOOMLAND, LET'S TALK!

Is Drake officially one of the greatest hitmakers of all time?

And should streaming-era records be compared directly with the achievements of legendary artists like The Temptations?
