A new sentencing development in Chicago rapper G Herbo's federal fraud case has brought renewed attention to the multimillion-dollar luxury spending scheme that involved stolen credit card information.

On October 8, 2026, Steven Hayes Jr., a 34-year-old Chicago-area rap promoter and co-defendant in the case, was sentenced to three years of probation in federal court in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The sentence came despite federal prosecutors recommending four to six months behind bars.

U.S. District Judge Mark G. Mastroianni also ordered Hayes to pay $2,728 in restitution and an additional $2,728 in forfeiture.

THE FRAUD SCHEME THAT INVOLVED PRIVATE JETS AND LUXURY TRAVEL

According to federal prosecutors, the conspiracy operated between March 2017 and November 2018.

Participants used stolen and unauthorized credit card information to obtain expensive goods and services, including private jet charters, limousine transportation, luxury accommodations, designer puppies, and automobile insurance.

The fraudulent transactions were processed using legitimate cardholders' personal and financial information.

When cardholders discovered the unauthorized charges, they disputed the transactions, leaving businesses responsible for financial losses.

Federal authorities determined that Hayes was responsible for approximately $44,814 in victim losses.

A HUNG JURY, A GUILTY PLEA, AND NO PRISON TIME

Hayes was originally indicted in December 2020 alongside five other defendants, including G Herbo.

His case proceeded to trial in February 2026, but jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict, resulting in a hung jury.

In May 2026, Hayes pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Although prosecutors requested a prison sentence, the judge ultimately imposed probation and financial penalties.

WHAT HAPPENED TO G HERBO?

G Herbo, born Herbert Wright III, previously pleaded guilty in July 2023 to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and making a false statement to a federal official.

In January 2024, he received three years of probation, was ordered to pay $139,968 in restitution and forfeiture, and received a $5,500 fine.

Other defendants received varying sentences.

Rap promoter Antonio Strong received three years in federal prison in October 2024, along with restitution and forfeiture obligations totaling more than $2.1 million.

Several other defendants, including rapper Joseph Williams and celebrity barber Terrence Bender, received probation and financial penalties.

LADY RED'S TAKE: LUXURY LIVING WITH SOMEBODY ELSE'S MONEY?

Now, here's what makes this case worth discussing.

We're talking about private jets, expensive accommodations, designer puppies, and luxury transportation purchased through a scheme involving stolen financial information.

And while several defendants avoided prison, that doesn't erase the fact that real people and businesses suffered financial losses.

What's especially interesting is how differently the defendants were sentenced.

One defendant received three years in federal prison, while others received probation.

Every defendant's circumstances and legal responsibilities are different, but the contrast raises questions about how punishment is determined in complex federal conspiracy cases.

The lesson? Looking wealthy and actually having the money to support that lifestyle are two entirely different things.

And when stolen credit cards enter the picture, that luxury lifestyle can come with a federal indictment.

THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT

The October 8 sentencing of Steven Hayes Jr. marks another significant resolution in the federal fraud prosecution that first made headlines in 2020.

The U.S. Department of Justice publicly announced Hayes' sentence on October 14, 2026.

For G Herbo, the development concerns a former co-defendant. It does not represent a new sentence or additional conviction against the Chicago rapper.
