🚨 HE DIDN’T JUMP: POLICE SAY 3 PEOPLE PUSHED MAN FROM MOVING CTA RED LINE TRAIN

CHICAGO | What was first reported as a man jumping from a moving CTA Red Line train has taken a much darker turn.

Chicago police now say three people pushed the man from the moving train during an altercation, and his death is being investigated as a homicide.

The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Monday near the 69th Street Red Line station on Chicago’s South Side.

Initial information from police indicated that the man had jumped from the moving train. But by Tuesday, investigators had pieced together a different account of what happened.

According to police, an altercation broke out aboard the train and three people pushed the victim out of the moving railcar.

The man fell onto the tracks, came into contact with the electrified third rail, became incapacitated and was then struck by another train. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

That means what Chicago initially heard about as a tragic CTA incident is now being treated as a killing.

Police have not released the victim’s name or age. As of Tuesday evening, no arrests had been announced, and police had not publicly identified the three people they are seeking or explained what started the altercation.

Area 1 detectives are investigating the case as a homicide.

The incident also caused major Red Line disruptions Monday, temporarily affecting service on a large portion of the South Side before trains eventually returned to normal operation.
