At this point Father Michael Pfleger probably needs one of those little punch cards. Get removed five times, and the sixth investigation comes with a free coffee.

Because here we go AGAIN.

Father Pfleger has been reinstated at St. Sabina after the Archdiocese of Chicago investigated the latest sexual-abuse allegation against him. The Archdiocese’s Independent Review Board concluded there was “no reason to believe” he was guilty of the allegation, and Cardinal Blase Cupich accepted the recommendation allowing Pfleger to return to ministry.

Now hold on before Facebook University opens enrollment and Professor Comment Section starts teaching Criminal Justice 101.

We are talking about an allegation of sexual abuse. That is serious. VERY serious. Anybody making an allegation like that deserves to be heard, and allegations involving children absolutely need to be investigated thoroughly.

And that's exactly why an investigation matters.

THEY INVESTIGATED IT.

The allegation came from a woman who said Pfleger sexually abused her when she was a student at St. Sabina more than 30 years ago. Pfleger denied the accusation. The matter went through the Archdiocese's review process, including its Independent Review Board, Office of Child Protection and outside investigators.

And when it was over?

No reason to believe the allegation.

So what are we supposed to do now, keep investigating the investigation until somebody gets the answer they wanted?

Baby, that's not how this works. 😂

And I already know somebody is warming up their thumbs right now:

NOPE. Read the whole article before you start typing me a dissertation with no paragraph breaks.

Nobody is saying allegations shouldn't be investigated. I'm saying once you investigate somebody, examine the available evidence and the people charged with reviewing the case say the allegation isn't supported, that conclusion matters too.

An accusation cannot automatically become a conviction in the court of public opinion.

And THIS is why some of us weren't ready to drag Father Pfleger down 79th Street by his collar the minute the allegation hit the news.

Look at this man's record in Chicago.

For decades, Farther Pfleger and St. Sabina have been out here dealing with things a whole lot of folks prefer to discuss from the comfort of their couches. Gun violence. Community outreach. Families in need. Young people. Peace marches. Neighborhood issues.

You don't have to agree with everything Father Pfleger says or does. Lord knows that man can find a microphone faster than I can. 😂

But pretending he hasn't put in WORK on Chicago's South Side?

Stop it.

So now he's been reinstated, and I can just picture Father Pfleger walking back into St. Sabina looking around like:

"IS YOU FINISH OR IS YOU DONE?" 😭😂

Because HOW MANY TIMES are we gonna do this?!

Removed.

Investigated.

Reviewed.

Reinstated.

Then somebody dusts off the folding table and Facebook Court is back in session.

Now can y'all PLEASE let this man get back to feeding people, helping families, fighting gun violence, marching through these Chicago streets and getting on somebody's nerves about something that actually needs attention?

Because if another headline pops up saying "Father Pfleger removed..." I'm gonna need St. Sabina to install a revolving door.
