🕊️ REST IN PEACE, SISTER BETSY JEAN FARRAKHAN: ELDEST DAUGHTER OF MINISTER LOUIS FARRAKHAN DIES

The Farrakhan family and the Nation of Islam are mourning another painful loss.

Sister Betsy Jean Farrakhan, the eldest daughter of Minister Louis Farrakhan and the late Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, has died at age 72. The Nation of Islam confirmed her passing in a statement announcing that she had “returned to Allah.” A cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.

The loss comes less than three months after the death of her mother, Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, who died in June at age 90 after 72 years of marriage to Minister Farrakhan.

🌱 MORE THAN A FAMOUS LAST NAME

Sister Betsy Jean built a legacy of her own through faith, service, leadership and agriculture.

She became deeply involved in farming in New Buffalo, Michigan, where she worked to encourage young people to learn agriculture and understand the importance of land, food production and self-sufficiency.

In 2016, the Nation of Islam's Ministry of Agriculture presented her with its first Farmer of the Year award. Her work included organizing the first Michigan Farm-Agriculture Workshop in 2015 and encouraging young people to consider agricultural sciences as a career.

Her service continued for years. In 2026, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing her leadership and contributions to sustainable agriculture and the Nation of Islam.

🖤 ANOTHER LOSS FOR THE FARRAKHAN FAMILY

This is an especially difficult season for the family.

Sister Betsy Jean was not simply Minister Farrakhan's eldest daughter. She was a wife, mother, farmer, teacher and longtime member of the Nation of Islam community, with decades of service behind her.

For Chicago, the Farrakhan family's connection to the city makes this loss particularly close to home.

Today isn't about controversy or politics. It's about acknowledging a woman whose family and community are grieving, and recognizing the work she devoted much of her life to.
