Two juvenile passengers were arrested after a Waymo robotaxi detected what the company described as a violation involving a firearm during an early-morning ride in San Francisco.

And baby...

THE CAR PULLED OVER.

Then Waymo contacted emergency services.

No driver.

No argument.

No, “Hey man, can you put that away?”

Just basically:

“POLICE? YES, COME GET THESE PEOPLE OUT OF ME.” 😂

🚨 WHAT HAPPENED?

Shortly before 4 a.m. on September 3, San Francisco police responded to the 800 block of 40th Avenue in the Richmond District after receiving a report that two passengers inside an autonomous vehicle had a firearm.

Waymo later confirmed the vehicle belonged to the company and said it safely stopped after detecting a firearm-related violation of its terms of service.

Police conducted what they called a high-risk vehicle stop and detained the two passengers, a boy and a girl who are both juveniles.

Authorities say officers searched the vehicle and recovered a loaded AR-style ghost gun, along with suspected marijuana and mace spray.

Both juveniles were arrested on suspicion of illegally possessing a firearm and taken to juvenile hall. The investigation remains active.

Basically, don't confuse driverless with nobody's watching.

Waymo says its vehicles have interior cameras that can be used to enforce its rules. The company says automated technology can help identify possible violations, including firearms, and that it may contact law enforcement if a firearm is detected.

Waymo's published rider rules are also crystal clear:

Weapons are not allowed inside the vehicles. 

So apparently your robotaxi isn't just taking you from Point A to Point B.

It may also be sitting there thinking:

“Is that an AR-style rifle?! Oh HELL no. END RIDE.”

But there is a serious conversation underneath the comedy. The incident is raising privacy questions about exactly what robotaxis monitor inside their vehicles, how automated systems flag behavior and when information gets passed to law enforcement.

That's a conversation worth having.
