📺 SNOWFALL AIN’T OVER! “THE DROP” JUST HIT HULU AND WE’RE BACK IN THE STREETS OF L.A.
If you thought Snowfall ended when Franklin Saint walked off into that heartbreaking finale, FX just said, “Hold on, we still got some story left.”
The Snowfall universe officially returned Tuesday, September 8, with The Drop: A Snowfall Saga, a new spinoff continuing the stories of Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons, played once again by Gail Bean and Isaiah John. The series premiered on FX and is streaming on Hulu. Hulu currently lists two episodes available.
FROM THE DOPE GAME TO THE RAP GAME 🎤
This time we're leaving the 1980s behind.
The Drop moves into 1990s Los Angeles, where communities are still dealing with the devastation left behind by the crack epidemic while West Coast hip-hop is exploding into a cultural force.
And Wanda sees an opportunity.
She's determined to help take West Coast rap mainstream and begins pulling together young talent, including her musically gifted cousin Lamar Kinsey, played by Asante Blackk, and James Kinsey, played by Peyton Alex Smith. She also sets her sights on volatile local rapper Artillery, played by Simmie “Buddy” Sims III.
So basically...
Snowfall traded the dope house for the record label.
But don't get comfortable. It's still the Snowfall universe.
Street politics, gangs, money, ambition and survival are all wrapped around this new music business.
AND LEON IS TRYING TO STAY OUT THE STREETS
Leon is on a completely different mission.
After everything he survived during Snowfall, he's trying to leave street life behind and find some redemption. His new path includes operating a free legal clinic, while Wanda's growing involvement in the music business creates tension between them.
And anybody who watched Snowfall knows Leon has been trying to find peace for about 47 traumatic episodes. 😂
Every time that man gets close to peace, Los Angeles comes around the corner like:
“Leon! Come outside. We need to talk.”
BUT WAIT... WHERE'S FRANKLIN? 👀
Now we already know the question Snowfall fans are going to ask:
WHAT ABOUT FRANKLIN SAINT?!
The new series is specifically centered on Wanda and Leon's next chapter, not Franklin's. FX describes it as continuing their lives shortly after the events of Snowfall.
So don't go into Episode 1 expecting Franklin to pop out from behind a palm tree with $73 million and a new business plan.
But because this is the same universe...
I'm watching EVERYTHING.

JOHN SINGLETON'S WORLD LIVES ON
There's also something meaningful about seeing the world established by the late John Singleton continue.
The original Snowfall ran for six seasons and 60 episodes, telling the story of Franklin Saint and the devastating rise of crack cocaine in 1980s Los Angeles.
Now The Drop moves that timeline forward and looks at another enormously influential chapter of Black Los Angeles history: the rise of West Coast rap.
That gives the spinoff room to become its own show instead of simply trying to recreate Franklin's story.

If you've been sitting around saying there isn't anything to watch, your Tuesday night just got booked.
The Drop: A Snowfall Saga premiered September 8, and new episodes are scheduled to continue weekly through October 27.
Now here's the real question:
Are you watching The Drop because Wanda and Leon deserve their own story, or are you watching because somewhere deep down you STILL believe Franklin Saint is coming back? 👀😂
