🕊️ TAY KEITH’S CAUSE OF DEATH REVEALED THREE MONTHS AFTER PRODUCER’S SUDDEN PASSING

Nearly three months after the hip-hop world was stunned by the death of producer Tay Keith, officials have now revealed what caused his death.

The Grammy-nominated producer, whose real name was Brytavious Lakeith Chambers, died from an accidental drug overdose, according to the Nashville Medical Examiner’s Office.

Toxicology findings determined that Keith died from the combined toxic effects of ketamine and several compounds associated with mitragynine, the primary active chemical found in kratom. His death was officially ruled an accident.

Keith was just 29 years old.

The Memphis native was found dead inside his Nashville apartment on June 18, 2026, after police were asked to conduct a welfare check. At the time, authorities said there were no indications of foul play, but his official cause of death remained pending while the medical examiner completed the investigation.

The new findings finally provide an answer to a question that had lingered since his sudden death.

FROM MEMPHIS BEATS TO HIP-HOP HISTORY

Tay Keith wasn't simply somebody making beats behind a laptop. His production became part of the soundtrack of an entire era of hip-hop.

He exploded onto the national scene through his work with fellow Memphis artist BlocBoy JB before becoming one of the industry's most recognizable producers. His credits eventually included records for Drake, Travis Scott, Beyoncé, Eminem, Future, 21 Savage, Cardi B, Sexyy Red and numerous other major artists.

His work on Travis Scott's “Sicko Mode” earned him a Grammy nomination, and he later received another Grammy nomination for his production work on Drake and 21 Savage's “Rich Flex.”

And somehow, while his career was exploding, Keith was still going to school.

He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2018, becoming the first person in his family to earn a college degree. That accomplishment became another important piece of his story, especially for young producers watching someone build a major music career without abandoning his education.

A CAREER CUT WAY TOO SHORT

Tay Keith was only 29, but his fingerprints were already all over modern hip-hop.

His producer tag became instantly recognizable. His records moved clubs, dominated playlists and helped create some of the biggest rap moments of the last decade.

Now the official explanation for his death adds a heartbreaking final chapter to a career that still had plenty of pages left to write.
