☕❤️ WHAT’S HAPPENING CHICAGO: FREE COFFEE, PASTRIES & COMMUNITY FOR OUR SENIORS!

Now THIS is the kind of Chicago story we like to see.
Back of the Yards Coffeehouse has been hosting Senior Mondays, a weekly program that gives older adults a place to come together, enjoy free coffee and a pastry, participate in activities and, most importantly, spend some time around other people. WTTW highlighted the program again on its October 6 broadcast. WTTW News
Every Monday, seniors are welcomed into the coffeehouse for programming built around community and connection, with activities changing over time. Recent Senior Monday programming has included workshops and access to community resources. Mato Events
❤️ THIS IS BIGGER THAN A CUP OF COFFEE
Sometimes we forget that loneliness and isolation can hit older adults HARD.
Your kids grow up.
Friends move away.
People retire.
Spouses and longtime friends pass away.
And suddenly somebody who used to have a house full of people can spend entire days without having a real conversation.
So something as simple as:
“Come have some coffee with us.”
can mean a whole lot more than the coffee.
It's somewhere to GO.
Somebody to TALK to.
Somebody to LAUGH with.
And maybe somebody who notices when you don't show up.

💥 730 BOOM SAYS...
THIS is community.
And if you've got a mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, auntie, uncle or older neighbor who sits in that house entirely too much, tell them about programs like this.
Matter of fact, don't just tell them.
TAKE THEM.
Because sometimes our seniors don't need another thing somebody bought them.
They need somewhere to go and somebody to talk to. ❤️☕
And FREE coffee and pastries?
Baby, now you speaking my language. 😂
