🚨 ARREST MADE AFTER STRING OF SEXUAL ATTACKS IN AVONDALE

📍CHICAGO | Chicago police say they have arrested and charged a 33-year-old man in connection with a disturbing series of sexual attacks against women in the Avondale neighborhood.

Police identified the man as Zayer Picado-Sevilla, of Chicago's Northwest Side. He is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse causing bodily harm and attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault causing bodily harm.

The charges stem from three attacks reported Friday, September 11, all occurring within roughly one hour, between 8 and 9 p.m. Police say women were approached from behind, grabbed and sexually touched over their clothing before the attacker fled.

The incidents happened in the 3400 block of North Springfield Avenue, 3900 block of North Cornelia Avenue and 3300 block of North Avers Avenue. In at least one of the attacks, police said the offender fled in a red sedan.

The string of attacks had put Avondale residents on alert while police searched for the person responsible. Now, investigators say they have a suspect in custody.

Picado-Sevilla was scheduled to appear Wednesday for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
