TRUMP RENAMES LAKE ONTARIO “LAKE AMERICA” AND CANADA SAID, “THE HELL YOU DID!” 😂

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday officially directing the U.S. federal government to start calling Lake Ontario “Lake America.”

Yes.

The lake.

THE WHOLE DAMN LAKE. 😂

Trump said the change was effective immediately, and the executive order directs the Interior Department and U.S. Board on Geographic Names to update federal maps, databases, contracts and government documents.

So apparently somebody in Washington woke up and said:

“You know what America needs today?

A NEW LAKE.”

Sir, we have bills. 😭

🇨🇦 CANADA: BABY, THAT'S OUR LAKE TOO

There is one teeny-tiny geographical problem with this plan.

CANADA IS ON THE OTHER DAMN SIDE OF THE WATER. 😂

Lake Ontario sits between New York and the Canadian province of Ontario, and roughly 52% of its surface area is on the Canadian side. Trump's executive order controls what the U.S. federal government calls the lake. It does not give the United States the power to make Canada, international organizations or private companies call it Lake America.

And Canada basically responded:

“That's cute.”

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney pointed out that the name Lake Ontario is more than 400 years old and predates both modern Canada and the United States.

His message was essentially:

It's Lake Ontario.

It was Lake Ontario.

And when y'all finish printing those new maps...

IT'S STILL GON' BE LAKE ONTARIO OVER HERE. 😂

Carney said Canadians know that “naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario, then, now and always.”

🗽 AND NEW YORK SAID WAIT A DAMN MINUTE TOO

You would think the American state actually touching the lake would at least be on board.

Nope. 😂

New York Governor Kathy Hochul responded:

“New York won't be calling it that.” 

BABY!

So now we got:

Trump: Lake America. 🇺🇸

Canada: Lake Ontario. 🇨🇦

New York: Lake Ontario.

The lake: 🌊 I literally just be sitting here.

🗺️ BUT THIS IS ACTUALLY OFFICIAL IN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Now underneath all the jokes, there is an important distinction.

Trump didn't merely post a nickname on social media. He signed Executive Order 14420 on August 27, directing federal agencies to use Lake America.

The order gives the Interior secretary 30 days to take the appropriate administrative actions, including updating the federal Geographic Names Information System and directing federal references to use the new name.

So if you're looking at certain U.S. federal maps and documents, expect to eventually see Lake America.

But Trump cannot simply rename it for Canada.

And he didn't move the international border.

Nobody woke up this morning and discovered Toronto had accidentally become Cleveland. 😂

👀 AND YES, THERE'S A BIGGER BEEF BEHIND THIS

This didn't come completely out of nowhere.

The name change comes while relations between the United States and Canada are already heated over trade and tariffs. U.S.-Canada trade negotiations recently broke down, and Trump had floated the Lake America idea publicly before signing the order.

Trump argues the United States contributes heavily to maintaining and protecting the Great Lakes. His executive order specifically points to American spending on the Great Lakes ecosystem and the U.S. Coast Guard's icebreaking operations as part of his justification for the change.

So there is an actual political and economic dispute underneath the headline.

But unfortunately for everybody involved...

THE HEADLINE IS STILL FUNNY AS HELL.

Because we're now beefing internationally over WHAT TO CALL WATER.

We have officially reached the point where you might leave Chicago, head east, ask somebody for directions and need to know which country's map they're holding before you know what lake you're looking at.

Trump already renamed the Gulf of Mexico “Gulf of America” for U.S. federal use.

Now Lake Ontario is “Lake America.”

At this rate, somebody better keep an eye on Lake Michigan.

Because if Trump looks toward Chicago and says:

“You know, I've always thought Lake Michigan should be called Lake Trump...”

Illinois is gonna be standing on the shoreline like:

Whatever you personally call it, here's the accurate bottom line:

For U.S. federal purposes: Lake America.

For Canada: Lake Ontario.

For Lady Red: THAT BIG ASS LAKE BY CANADA UNTIL Y'ALL FINISH ARGUING. 😂😂😂
